I have fabspeed catless downpipes with PSE. Interested in changing to Akra exhaust. Do you think that will sound great?
Sounds awesome after cold start. But cold start with soul cats and the akra were beyond obnoxious to me. I immediately took my sport cats off because of that. Some members here think its perfect. I on the other hand think could not stand it. It drove me and anyone near my car crazy. It literally shook my house, and neighboring houses. They let me know...lol. Now if I had a tune with cold start delete I probably would have keep it. But my tune days are over with. Been there done that.

Come on, @BIGWORM , you know you'll be back in the Porsche world before you know it.
Just to confirm for my sanity:
Akra with PSE cats: louder cold start but not obnoxious; louder above 5k rpm; but no highway drone in normal mode around 3k rpm?
Does it sound civil in normal mode when only cruising is desired?
I am getting (just) the Akra slip-on installed on June 9.
It's been awhile since Ive had my 992. So my memory might be a little off. But this is what I remember.
PSE with soul cats was a deeper idle with LOTS of whistle (especially if you get drop in filters). But it was not THAT much louder than PSE alone. Maybe 5-10% at most.
The Arka with stock cats seemed to make much more sound in the mid to top end. Much MORE. It screams when you are on the gas. But it also changed the idle down low too. I just seem to think the sport cats were a deeper sound.
Looking back, Im not sure which one I liked more to be honest. I like a good sounding deep idle more than a screaming exhaust. But I felt sports cats on the 992 didn't help THAT (at least not like they did on the 991.2 911's). It helped, but it wasnt like oh. THis is a hard one to answer. I liked the PSE with sport cats. But If I did this again, I would probably skip the sport cats and do the Arka. Especially if I had a 21 or up which seems to trigger a CEL with sport cats now.
Ahh really appreciate the quick response and your time bigworm! Luckily I have a 20 so I shouldn't have issues with CEL.
With the Akra route I'm assuming I wouldn't need to do anything for emissions (Live in SoCal) right as it is totally compliant? Wondering how you handled smog when you did have sport cats.

Your objective experience will determine what I do.

Arka is totally fine. The sports cats are probably not if they really looked. The sport cats take 1-2hr max shop labor to swap. So if and when I had to smog I’d probably try it with the sport cats on and just swap them out if I failed. That said I don’t think we have to smog for 7yrs or something.

Ahh yeah that makes sense. Last question I promise!! You mentioned the akra was much louder in higher RPMs. Comparative to the soul cats, was it also 10 - 20 % louder in idle / low rpms vs stock? Or in idle / low rpm was the soul cats or akra louder?
My car with just Akrapovic and OEM Cats. Before w/PSE and After. Not bad. Akrapovic adds just the amount of depth and tone I wanted (much like the Akrapovic setup I had on my 991.1) without the outrageous cold start you guys mention.

Unless the factory installs the front Cat clamps upside down from the Akra instructions. Then you have to loosen up a nearby black turbo duct for access and ratchet 1 or 2 clicks at a time.
Agree with BIGWORM, Akra with OEM Cats sounds fine.
yes the valves version but I am going nuts between that one or Akra just don’t know what to do
Well- the good thing about Akra is you can usually sell it second hand. Sure- it will need to be discounted but there is always decent demand for Akra. So in a year or two you should not have a problem finding a buyer. Will hold resale value better in my opinion.
For what it's worth, also consider a muffler replacement from us as another setup in contention. Our Valved Exhaust System uses a muffler for the valves closed flowpath, and inside is an X-Pipe to blend the exhaust and give it a smoother tone. With valves closed its noticeably quieter than the Akrapovic (or any style using just a tubing diameter change), and with valves open it takes the edge off the sound level compared to those designs because there is still exhaust going through the secondary valves closed flowpath using the muffler. Versus just a tubing diameter change, there is also more noticeable delta of sound difference between valves closed and valves open. Below is a link to product page as well as some photos of the design to review. Let me know if you guys have any questions I can answer, and feel free to give me a ring anytime to chat about this platform
