Default Getting the ducks lined up; 992 Oil Change

Yes I know I don't have the car yet, but I change oil twice a year irrespective of mileage and knowing that Mobil1 ESP 0w-40 is not stocked locally and if they do bring it in it's a hazmat 3 to 4 weeks ordeal, Amazon Prime came to the rescue. So I ordered two 6 pack cases for $50.99 each. With about 9qts. per change I should have a few spare for emergencies.

So concerning the oil filter. Is it the same part number as the 991.2 as I can't find any reference to 992 directly - well yes, I did see it on Suncoast parts but a wee bit overpriced compared to other places not to mention UPS is not what I want to subsidize when the good old PO is perfectly fine. Anyone have a part number or ship friendly parts store?

Siberian - I don't think this oil meets the C40 spec. You need the "X3" version of this.

I have no experience doing a DIY on this, but indeed it does look like for the C40 spec - you need this one:

https://www.mobil.com/en-ro/passenge...-1-esp-x3-0w40

and the only other brand that seems to meet it, is:

Amazon Amazon

From what I've gleaned from Rennlist, the Mobil 1 C40 requirement is for 992s that have the GPF, which are the primarily European market. 2021 and earlier US models do not have the GPF from what I've been told and from other owners who looked at their exhausts. I personally don't know what they look like. The Mobil 1 0-40 ESP sold on Amazon (linked by Siberian) is the same oil sold by Suncoast Porsche Parts.

Note this comment:
Always consult your owner's manual to check recommended viscosity grade and specifications for your particular vehicle. Typically this oil is standard equipment for the following models:
  • Panamera GTS, Turbo, & Turbo S E-Hybrid - 2017 or newer
  • Cayenne Turbo - 2019 or newer
  • All Boxster Models - 2019 or newer (produced after 05/14/2018)*
  • All Cayman Models - 2019 or newer (produced after 05/14/2018)*
  • All 911 Carrera Models - 2019 or newer (produced after 05/14/2018)*

Note: "*" There is a production split, cars made before 05/14/2018 should use a different oil. This is the official oil used by Porsche USA. This is not the "C40" version, C40 is for European market cars only.

kpblade is correct. No Particulate Filter = No C40 needed. C40 grade lubricating oil is needed to prevent premature plugging of the Particulate Filter. At least for the moment, it doesn't look like we'll get Gasoline Engine Particulate Filters until 2025 at the earliest. Current U.S. Federal and California Porsche engines in all applications meet the Level III 3 mg/mile standard. The 1 mg/mile rule doesn't hit until 2025 at the earliest. It's possible that the 1 mg/mile rule will require a Particulate Filter, but we have until 2025 . . . . at the moment.

OK, good information there.

So dealer told me I have the GPF which is the reason I got ESP. I need to call the service people to double check given my VIN what oil is needed. I'll post back Monday. Thank you all

Siberian - I can almost guarantee you do NOT have GPF. You'd be the first in the country that I've heard of.

Which is why this is all so confusing. The C40 is for GPF'd cars but the dealers (and aftermarket garages) I've talked to said the C40 is STILL the new standard for 992s, with or without GPF. It seems Porsche just wants to make it simple and say 992s need C40 worldwide when in fact the oil was made for GPF'd cars which we don't have yet.

This is my understanding.

Thank you for the heads up. So here is the (obvious) takeway from this experience:

1) Believe absolutely NOTHING a salesperson tells you. I specifically asked at least 4 times in writing and I was told I did have GPF. I was also told that everyone that has RAS has a LiFePo4 battery; seems that's not true either...

So the question now is... can I use Mobil1 0w-40 ESP on my 992 (I have 12 quarts sitting unpacked in my garage)...? Lastly what is the difference between ESP and ESP 3x??
