Default Advice for getting the best launch control

Please advise on launch control perfection.

Ideal temp?
How to avoid that lag in the first half second or so?
To wait a few seconds or to not wait, after the "Launch control active" light comes on?
Sometimes my launch controls feel much faster than others. What can I do to get the perfect one?

I haven't even tried it in the 992 yet. And I've had two now! lol.

Done it once, can't help. Though I would assumer the warmer (tires, engine, ambient temperature) the better.

Warm out but not too warm. Get some heat in the tires. Good surface. Get revs up for a few seconds to build boost in the turbos and let ‘er rip.

And push the NOs button...or whatever that button is in the middle of the mode selector dial.

I have never tried it on my car. I only drive in the city or freeway and never race. It was on the car I bought but I would not put it on any car that I configurated and ordered. Normal and Sport are enough for me now. After flying the F-4 Phantom and F-105 Thunderchief in the Air Force for 23 years I don't need any more thrills.

Great question. I have a 2020 992 S and the launch is no where as awe inspiring as my 2018 Panamera Turbo. Any advice on this would be great.

I've now launched my 4S several times. Heck, I have even done it with the winter tires -- equally as impressive. It's memorable and feels every bit of the approximately 3 secs that testers experience. I don't experience the half second lag that you're describing. My car has over 16k miles, so the parts are all "familiar" at this point. :P

As for perfecting it, the computer does all of the heavy lifting. The surface conditions are important -- good pavement and smooth are key to getting the maximum grip at launch. I can say that the 4S definitely hooks up.

With that being said, having driven other quick cars, I don't feel the need to do it regularly. After you've done a few, you do get numb to the acceleration. Plus, there really are limited conditions where you can do it. I've done all of mine on the same wide, quiet straight stretch of road at an undisclosed location in the hinterlands. It's a good party trick to show friends, but in the real world or even track, very limited use cases.

In all the turbo cars I have ever owned, always got the max boost with highest octane possible, cool and damp conditions. Of course if the roads are damp, then you may have slippage unless you have all wheel drive. Grip at launch is key.

But no experience, yet, with the 992.

I've launched my S Cab dozens of times - its addicting and super simple. I found I can eek out another tenth or so 0-60 with PSM in "Sport" and NOT using the sport response button. The sport response button launches with a higher RPM (more wheelspin) leading to a slower 0-60 in my Dragy testing.

I need too try it. I last did this in my 991.2GTS and remember is was much easier than doing it in a BMW but I didnt remember what all I needed to do to activate it again.

^ Dude, it’s so easy a 5 year old can do it.

Floor the brake, then floor the throttle.

Look for the blue indicator light.

Release brake immediately.

Take off.

I thought that you had to be in Sport+ to use launch control. Why do you use Sport?

I was seeing on TheStraightPipes review of the 718Spider that their manual transmission car had launch control, is that also true for the 911?
