Two of my favorite planes as a boy. Built nice models of both. When I saw them in the flesh for the first time, I couldn't believe how BIG the F-4 Phantom was!

Manual 992s have launch control, but it isn’t the zero skill, consistent outcome process of the PDK cars. When a human is doing the clutching, it’s also a lot harder on the clutch, because you have to basically dump it. Most manual transmission owners won’t do to their own car what it takes to get a good time. It feels abusive, because it is. Magazines and reviewers can get good numbers. They don’t care what happens to the car — it’s not their car.

With the clutch in at a stop, launch control allows you to put the gas to floor and it will hold the revs to build boost (around 4K) instead of bouncing off of the rev limiter at redline.

are all 992 equipped with LC?

my 992 c2 has sport chrono / PSE.

online i could only find it saying to put the car in Sport plus, have your left foot on the brake down 100% then the right foot on the accelerator. it will hold the revs and BAM LC kicks in.

but i didn't get any notification on the car saying LC is active? it felt like i just brake boosted the car?

sorry for the newb questions. any help will be greatly appreciated.

For LC you need the drive mode to be in Sport+ but traction control (PSM) can be in either of its 3 modes (on, off, or sport). I found the best LC results in sport but only by a whisker.

Have you tried timing it with something like Dragy? I’m curious if it is a subjective lack of awe or if something is happening and it’s actually slower. My Tesla Model 3 has what feels like insane acceleration. They claim my model should do 0-60 in 4.2, but with Dragy the best I’ve seen is around 4.6. My C2S doesn’t feel quite as explosive, but I’ve hit 3.1–a huge difference obviously.

In all seriousness, does this make a difference? I think I read a post somewhere that said for launch control that button doesn’t do anything.

I think even 747's g-force during take off is sometimes pretty strong, depending on pilot I guess... probably far stronger than any sport car...

Or is it combination of ascending? I am not sure now...

I can only imagine what would it be like in a fighter jet...

In addition, planes can literally roll, for fun, LOL!

911 cannot thrill you much sir!!!

Go all the way down with the brake while stopped and in S+.

Then, push the throttle down quickly ALL THE WAY. This step needs to occur pretty quickly.

YOu should see the LC indicator light go on

quick question: for those of you with the 992 when i stomp on the gas i get a split second of lag and then it accelerates like crazy. but when i ease into the throttle all the way it seems to feel faster. i don't have another to measure my 0-60 times but was just wondering if some of you also notice that.

i will order the draggy performance meter and then report back on 0-60 times in various modes at altitude. i am at 4500 - 6000 feet above sea level and wonder how close i an get to some of you at sea level.

thanks!

I’ve used the launch control a handful of times over the 2 years of owning the 992s, but still prefer just mashing the accelerator and go. “Launching” seems artificial to me….and would never do it if running at a light. Best times for me were on cooler days (not cold), with hot tires, running on slightly lower tire pressure than I normally drive on. If 2-wheel drive, traction is key. Best time for me was 3.1 sec (2.9 with 0.2 sec rollout deduction, per C&D). Used Draggy.

As an aside, I also have an EV, which also comes with “launch control”…and have yet to see any real (time) differences between using launch control or just mashing the accelerator…on my EV. On ICE cars, I understand the reason/advantages of using launch control….but on EV’s, not sure if it buys you anything getting off the line? 3.9 sec (uncorrected) to 60mph is my best EV time.
