Plus the supernatural shifts from normal to sport (even the engine shut down) was very clever. Now I'm a bit confused -- I was getting mentally prepared to wait 4-6 months for a custom C2S with 7MT. However teh PDK and C4S was so good, I think I could quickly get one off the lot somewhere in the country and have an awesome roadtrip to boot.

Not sure if I have a question here -- its impossible to find a 7mt to test drive, so I don't know how much of a step change it is compared to the PDK (and to be honest, i would NEVER, EVER be able to match the performance of a PDK anyway, and with a PDK I'd feel more comfortable going to a track day). Am crazy to not wait? Anyone move from a PDK to MT because they were suddenly out of love with the car? What would I lose if I move from C2S to C4S?

P.S. it took me about 30 min for my heart to calm down after the test drive. I think I'm addicted.

For the past 6 months I've been LOVING my new 992 C4S w/PDK, rear steering and PDCC. I come from a pretty slick Audi B9 RS5... but this 911 is my first "proper" high end sports car.

My good friend just picked up a 922 C4S with manual and we spent this past weekend trading cars on windy roads and highways.

The verdict? We both loved both versions for different reasons.

Notes on PDK:

• Unreal responsiveness. I spend 95% of my time with the paddles but there is no question, especially in highway driving that full automatic in Sport Plus is BLISTERINGLY fast(er).
• I love how quickly the car (in paddle or auto) can skip gears on downshifts which leads to awesome high RPM sound and of course the boost...
• The Porsche Sport Response Button is much more effective in full auto vs. w/paddles
• Paddles on backroads is preferred for "feel"

Notes on 7 speed manual:

• 1st and 2nd gears while accelerating aggressively definitely took some/a lot of practicing. A bit tough to really nail the first 1 or 2 shifts.
• As the PDK guy, I was blown away by the rev matching while downshifting the manual. My buddy didn't tell me about the rev matching the first time I tried the manual and after just a short time in the car, I was quickly comfortable especially on twisty roads.
• We both loved the shifter and throw lengths
• In town and traffic, not that fun.
