No extended range fuel tank on C4S?

It seems like the Extended Range Fuel Tank is available on S but not 4S?
Wanted to get 4S originally as I live in NYC and plan to drive during winter, but with 40% lower fuel capacity it doesn't seem to worth that extra bit of safety that comes with 4WD?

I believe the front drive train on the 4S eliminates the extra room for fuel tank capacity on the 2S. Invest in some great winter tires and get the 2S!

FWIW the 4WD versions do have a slightly larger stock gas tank than the 2WD cars. An additional 3 Liters or 0.8 Gallons, for whatever that's worth. To get the extended range tank you cannot have 4WD. The front differential on 4WD versions occupies the space the larger gas tank fits into on 2WD 911's.

Do to the AWD the 4s can not accommodate the extended range tank.
I posted in another thread: I did a work trip (drove) it was 320 miles each way (Cincinnati to Chicago). Was curious on my MPG (my other 911s have been surprising good compared to my other fun cars). During my trip I did of course a lot of highway, but also was all week in the city and drove quite a bit in the chicago traffic each day from a few points around the city, and back to my hotel. All in all about 700 miles driven total. My gas milage was 32.4mpg with winter tires 19/20s. This is better than any car I currently own (by a long shot). So while the extended range tank would be great to have on the C4S, for extended drives I was getting plenty of milage out of the standard tank. Not to mention Chicago got 3.5 inches of snow during one of the days (and then back in the 60's the next day) was good to have the AWD!

Considering that you’ll get more than 300 miles of range out of the standard tank, especially with highway miles, you’re likely to have to stop to micturate before you run out of gas.
From my extensive road tripping experience in my 992 C4S, the standard fuel tank is entirely sufficient.
If you’re tracking the car, the extended range tank can offer some benefit, but remember, that you’re also going to be about 40lbs heavier with a full tank. An AWD 911 with 2/3 of a tank will weigh less than an RWD 911 with a filled extended range tank.

Range with the standard tank in my C4 hasn’t been an issue in any way. On the highway - even though I never use 8th gear as it drones - I still get around 600km (375 miles) on a tank cruising at about 120kph.

I took a job as PM for NOAA's Command and Data Acquisition Station; one of only two polar satellite stations (the other one is in Svalbard, Norway). Leaving Hawaii it was the only logical choice right? As my wife said at the time "don't forget to write and send pictures..."

PS In actual fact I had been working up here on TDY for a couple years deploying nets and comms for the US Army (JBER, Ft. Greely, Ft. Wainwright, Basset, the VA) out of TAMC Hawaii (as a contractor)

Now after a week in Hawaii she can't wait to get back. Too humid, too much traffic, too expensive and thankfully she hasn't had to parallel park in 13 years here ;-)
Ahh Palmer, near Talkeetna and the summer fests... you lived there or just spent vacations?
