The "magic" of the drive was too much for me yesterday.

I got pulled over by a cop for speeding--WAY over the limit.

What a buzzkill. The cop was kind enough to give me a warning, but now it's time for a major strategy adjustment....

Another vantage - I have a 2020 C2S PDK (RAS/PDCC/SPASM) - one year and 6K miles in and I'm very pleased with decision on PDK in part because the C2S is soooo capable and every MT I've ever driven was in a lesser powered/lighter cars and I am accustom to using the transmission to get as much as possible out of the underpowered cars. For street driving - if I attempted to get everything out of the C2S - I would be in jail or in a ditch. Additionally, my limited attention is getting distracted by the electronics/gadgets in the car - so a stick would be another challenge for me.

That said I do miss a stick so I'm passively looking for a 993 (stupid high valuations right now) with a manual so I can experience pushing a slower car fast .

You best simmer down lest we have to take up a collection for your bail.

Thank your lucky stars you don't have one of the fast 911 variants...

^ That's exactly what I thought yesterday:

"What on Earth would I do with a Turbo S?" I think I'm good with what I have.....perhaps I need something even slower!"

Well, I'm guessing I'm going to get the usual "You have to go to the track" bit, but does anyone have experience as to the best types of places for intermittent spirited driving?

My best luck has been way out in the back roads around farms. Pretty rare to see cops out there.

Then I spent about an hour behind the wheel this weekend of a C4S.

Oh my ****, what a ride. The car takes corners (in wet conditions) way way faster than I ever had. The sound is intoxicating. I felt so secure and confident, but also fairly scared at how damn fast it is. The PDK is the most amazing thing ever. Very active downshifts, instant response all the time. Plus the supernatural shifts from normal to sport (even the engine shut down) was very clever. I loved the small details -- the heated seats and steering wheel were very comfortable, not too hot, just warm enough. Even the glass sunroof was amazing.

Now I'm a bit confused -- I was getting mentally prepared to wait 4-6 months for a custom C2S with 7MT. However teh PDK and C4S was so good, I think I could quickly get one off the lot somewhere in the country and have an awesome roadtrip to boot.

Not sure if I have a question here -- its impossible to find a 7mt to test drive, so I don't know how much of a step change it is compared to the PDK (and to be honest, i would NEVER, EVER be able to match the performance of a PDK anyway, and with a PDK I'd feel more comfortable going to a track day). Am crazy to not wait? Anyone move from a PDK to MT because they were suddenly out of love with the car? What would I lose if I move from C2S to C4S?

P.S. it took me about 30 min for my heart to calm down after the test drive. I think I'm addicted.
PDK is excellent. Have you driven a MB AMG car like an E63S sedan or wagon? The sound is much better and the acceleraton will be comparable to the C4S. Nothing like a V8. There is also the M8. Of course, nothing like a 911 in the corners but the sound of the turbo sixes is timid to put it mildly. If going to buy an automatic, might as well as get a V8. The M8 or AMG will be a quieter cruiser ad well, BTW, I own the previous gen C4S manual, which is fun.

*ahem* sound is not muffled in an AMG and that is the only area where it scores above a 911, to most objective observers. Acceleration is not quite comparable, just like moving a model S at 2.8 sec 0-60 doesn’t equate to a thrilling ride. In most cases, a base Carrera can beat a 500 bhp counterpart.
It comes down to personal taste, of course. For the 911:
Drivetrain loss(lack thereof) : check
PDK over any AMG or M series tranny: check
Handling: check
Interior: check
Not losing half the value in 5 years: Hell yeah!

Just my 2 cents!

I’m a bit of an odd one here but I’ll bite.

The only 911 I’ve ever driven has been the 991.2 GT3, but are you saying that a E63s AMG or an M8 is the same as a carrera in terms of feel? Those cars just feel like fast luxury cars to me. Only thing I’ve ever driven that felt like I feel a race car would is the GT3. Never driven a Carrera though.. is that other people‘s opinions too? That a Carrera feels similar to an E63s or M car?

No. I would never compare a 911 to a AMG or an M. Completely diff feel.

You can compare, but I’ll give an unbiased view on this.... both the M8 (or any M on the two ton platform) and E63 are fast luxury cars with good gearboxes... but not 992 PDK level of good.

Wife’s Macan Turbo, the 7speed pdk in that isn’t as good as the 992 box.... on par with the 7speed BMW DCT boxes.

IMO you get far more emotion in a 992 than the others, hence why some want to go all out with a manual.... which I get.

Well, we do live in youtube times and Matt's drag races are hilarious IMO. The poor PDK C4S was left far behind. But we don't buy 911s to win drag races. Point being, the OP mentioned how fast the 911 felt and it is. But there are faster cars with automatics, big power and sound at similar prices. Tech is better in MB and BMW cars. The M8 competition is about the same price as a C4S.
But I will stick my slow manual C4S on a winding back road.
