Default Excited to Join the 992 Community!

Hello 992 Community -

I promised myself I wouldn't fall for the 992 yet here I am. Previous P-Cars include a 2016 C2S PDK, a 2018 4 GTS 7MT and a 2014 911 50th 7MT. I recently had a 718 GT4 on order and decided to switch to a 992, which better fits my use case as a semi-daily driver. Below is the Porsche Code. Would love to hear your thoughts (I know I know another build code!).

A few things that excite me about the 992:
- Manual Transmission. Reading Nick Murray's review and commentary from other Rennlisters (Norberts, 4carl as well as others) really got me excited that the MT in the 992 is improved (albeit evolution not revolution).
- Interior. The 992 seats and cabin in general look much more comfortable than the 991.
- RAS. I did not spec RAS on my 991.2 GTS and have heard a lot of good things about it.

A few things that I'm still on the fence about:
- Chalk vs. CWM. I have CWM on my Macan GTS so wanted to switch it up.
- Sport Tex vs. Full Leather. It seems the Sport Tex might wear better than the leather.

Thanks for looking!

Welcome to a fellow Coloradan. I have Chalk with Sport Tex. If you are on the fence we could meet up.

I've always thought BMW had some nice manuals but the one in my C2S cab is world class! So fun!

I have CWM on my 992 C4S (and also a Manual Trans). If I were to do it over I would 100% go with Sportex interior! Cool and old school! My next build will have it for sure.

I went with CWM, great color (I have not had before), it is my Daily Driver, so wanted wither CWM or Jet Black. My buddy which is also my neighbor has a Chalk 992, thought it would be stupid for both to have the same car :-)

My next will be likely a Jet Black Targa, Sportex seats and palidum wood interior. Throwback kind of like my 1970s Targa.

I have a manual transmission and think that you will like this one for sure. I also have the Sport Tex seats - they grip you, have a nice cushion, and are visually pleasing. Welcome to the club and have fun on the configurator!

Nice build. Are you sure you need Front Axle Lift? Almost every post about this that I've read suggests that it is largely unnecessary and unused. I'd take those dollars and option the Exclusive Carrera wheels (the graphic on your build sheet shows them). I decided not to order the smoker's package. I didn't want some future buyer checking the VIN and discovering that option, and not wanting the car because of the fear it had been smoked-in. Obviously, if you are a smoker, ignore this comment. As to white metallic versus chalk, either looks great, but I'm not sure that chalk is worth over three thousand bucks since it is so close to white.

Chalk is a very interesting color, but just be sure (if you haven't already) to see it in several different lighting conditions. I had ordered chalk for my previous 991.2 TTS, as it looks (to me) stunning in the showroom under the fluorescent lights. In sunlight it takes on a rather pronounced gray hue, which some like and some don't. I fall into the latter bucket, so went with CWM for the TTS.

Regarding RAS, I did order that for my 992 Targa (and for the Targa, comes only in combination with PDCC). Mainly wanted the PDCC with the Targa due to weight/higher center of gravity, but was fine with RAS thrown in. With the combo I honestly find the handling of the Targa comparable to the TTS (and more manageable power delivery for this non-track guy).

Good luck with the build. Nice to have all these choices to make.

Thanks for the kind offer! I live in Denver/Cherry Creek now. Do you live in the Denver area? Feel free to move to PM. Thanks again!

Agree on BMW. Some say the BMW manual shifter has a rubbery feel. I had a 340i track package and I thought it was pretty smooth. Also great clutch weight, feel, and catch point. Your feedback is encouraging.

Thanks Richard! You guys have me leaning hard towards my instinct of sticking with the sport tex. I also think the targa (my second choice now) will be my first choice in a few years.

Thank you Dan. I recall that you had the 991.2 in manual. I thought that was a pretty good manual transmission so hoping the 992 is similar. The clutch in the 991.1 was heavy to me. I bet some rennlisters will laugh at this and say its light but for every day use it was heavy, had a high catch point and was overall not as satisfying as the .2. In your opinion, is the 992 much different than the 991.2? And another vote for the sport tex!

I had FAL in my 991.2 and really really liked it. It allows you to be more lazy and requires less need for always angling the car in on steep driveways. I think its especially useful when you have Sport PASM and painted front lip - both of which I spec'd. Def not a smoker but like the look of the smoking package so ordered it. Your comment re: CWM vs Chalk resonates with me and is part of my struggle. Not sure its worth the $ over CWM but I do value its uniqueness.

Thanks dgtarga. I went to a dealership yesterday and saw a GT2 RS in chalk in the showroom and sunlight. I definitely noticed a big difference between the two - the same that you mention and I'm still on the fence! Nice to hear the comments re: RAS and the difference it makes.

Welcome! Very nice build, my only comment would be you're sure 4-way vs 14/18 way seats?

I have 4 way SS+ and adjusted once on pickup and never since, completely comfortable and save the $3K for motors and increased weight and breakdown risk.

Do you get the same lumbar support? I know you would only set it up once (or perhaps twice) but it's the range of settings that are not present in 4 way which are in 14/18 way.

I had the million ways adjustable seats on my M3 and rarely touched lumbar (or any other setting really)...I guess my body doesn't need it...

Seriously I just plopped in the 992 seats and that was fine for me after 30 seconds of 4 way adjusting.
