^ Yeah, he must be confusing catless with high flow cats.

Ive read that high flow cats are just as effective at removing toxic gases, they just do so much faster than the stock cats. Anyone else wanna chime in on this?

Risk? I live in California. I’ve had sport cats, catless exhausts, exhaust systems, and even an aftermarket supercharger on my cars. Not once has a LEO asked to see my sport cats, exhaust, and or asked to look under the hood. 90% of them don’t know much about cars anyhow.

The EPA might be after, VW for lying. but they are not looking for endusers. The worst thing that will most likely happen is your standard “modified exhaust” fix it ticket for it being too loud from a LEO. And PSE with sport cats is not that much louder than stock. So I’m not seeing the risk factor. At least not yet or anytime soon.

Come on... you know you want to break the law too. Do it! Do it! Do it!

The HJS HD 200 cell catalytic converters have a higher count of precious metals than the OEM to do the job of catalyzation in spite of the decreased surface area inside the catalytic converter. The downside is that they are more expensive. Factory catalytic converters are overbuilt to perform under all conditions for an extended period of time due to the Federal Emissions Warranty

Per the EPA's website:

"The Clean Air Act requires manufacturers of light-duty vehicles to provide two federal emission control warranties: (A) "Performance Warranty" and (B) "Design and Defect Warranty." These warranties are provided by the vehicle manufacturer and apply to used vehicles as well. The warranty period begins from the date of sale to the original owner. The Performance Warranty covers repairs which are required during the first 2 years or 24,000 miles of vehicle use (whichever first occurs) because the vehicle failed an emission test. Specified major emission control components are covered for the first 8 years or 80,000 miles (whichever first occurs). The specified major emission control components only include the catalytic converters, the electronic emissions control unit or computer (ECU), and the onboard emissions diagnostic (OBD) device or computer. If you are a resident of an area with an Inspection and Maintenance (I/M) program that meets federal guidelines, you are eligible for this warranty protection provided that:
  • Your car or light-duty truck fails an approved emissions test; and
  • Your vehicle is less than 2 years old and has less than 24,000 miles (up to 8 years/80,000 miles for certain components); and
  • Your state or local government requires that you repair the vehicle; and
  • The test failure does not result from misuse of the vehicle or a failure to follow the manufacturers’ written maintenance instructions; and
  • You present the vehicle to a warranty-authorized manufacturer representative, along with evidence of the emission test failure, during the warranty period.
The Design and Defect warranty covers repair of emission control or emission related parts which fail to function or function improperly because of a defect in materials or workmanship for 2 years or 24,000 miles (whichever first occurs), and the specified major emissions control components mentioned above for 8 years or 80,000 miles (whichever first occurs). The manufacturer can deny this warranty coverage if evidence shows that the emission component failure was caused by improper use or maintenance and not caused by a defect.

A list of these components and a description of the warranties (PDF) (10 pp, 697K, EPA-420-F-15-035, October 2015) is available on our web site. However, vehicle technology is constantly changing, therefore there may be emissions control components or emissions related components which do not appear on this list. A more complete list can be found in your owner's manual/warranty booklet. The specified major emissions control components, however, are specified in the Clean Air Act and are the only components subject to the 8 years/80,000 mile federal emissions warranty."
HJS HD 200 cell cats are engineered for increased longevity under performance conditions. Notably, the triple metal matrix design which increases rigidity and the brazing stripe, an indent around the core which locks it in place in shell to prevent it from dislodging.

As always if anyone has any questions we're more than happy to do our best to provide information and enhance your satisfaction. We look forward to kicking off R&D for our 992 rear exhaust(s) as soon as possible!

Thank you!

I am responding to Tupper and not discussing legality rather comparing aspects of the factory catalytic converters - and some facts people should know about their Emissions Warranty - and the HJS cats.

Then don't put them on your car man. Easy!

Doubt very seriously they are going after end users...have not heard a case yet of this despite multiple vendors selling Sport cats for multiple cars by multiple vendors across the US. From every Mustang, Corvette, Camero, BMW, Audi, Porsche, Mercedes etc someone makes these products and sells them to cars daily on the streets near you and I've yet to see a stop-inspect-arrest/ticket setup or dragnet anywhere and have lived in quite a few states. Just saying....chill out guys. Educated buyer's here...
