My advice Tupper. Get your exhaust ordered and done also. This is something you probably want to do at the same time IMHO vs having the bumper come off a second time if you do decide to upgrade the exhaust as you've mentioned. Also check with your shop you've found and makes sure they give you a quote for the cats and exhaust...as said they already will be unbolting things back there anyway for the SOUL Cats so why not. I'd also ask if they've done a 992 and are familiar with Porsches too..just helps to know and assuage your confidence level and theirs.

I think there's someone on the forum who's done both SOUL cats and an Akra exhaust who can give you an update or reference...search and/or ask around. I thought about it but Spring 2021 tuition was due for BOTH kiddos so ran out of "play" money till the summer for the car! LOL. Just hope neither needs/wants to take summer classes (1 Semester=SOUL CATS!) LOL

^ Why, is removing the bumper a big deal? I got the sense from the shop that this was a pretty routine thing

According to John Graydos, "The install can indeed be a quick one, no bumper removal necessary and I’d say most shops would charge an hour or two".

You do not need to remove the bumper to install the Soul cats. My shop charged me 2 hours to do the install.

Having done this, you can R&R the cats without removing the bumper. The exhaust does require it to be removed. When you install the exhaust, you do have to loosen up the cats to align everything. Replacing the cats is almost free labor if you change the exhaust at the same time.

I installed my own - muffler did not require removing the bumper. It was a little tight/tricky, but no worse than the vband clamps on the cats (since the bolt head is facing up). Done on a Quickjacks lift as well.

So you didn't install the tips then. With the right tools, the bumper comes off pretty quickly. Quick jacks are nice. I have one also.

We didn't remove the wheels either.

Ah, I should have clarified - no, my system (iPE) didn't come with tips, it just re-uses. TBH, I like the black chrome tips - I wanted CF but I don't think anyone makes it without a logo. In any case, does that require removal? I thought it just attaches to the diffuser/rear of the bumper.

Yes, the diffuser is installed insdie the bumper. You have to remove the bumper to replace the tips.

Yea, I thought the tips attached to the outside (i.e. towards the inside of the car) of the diffuser.

I've found a local company that looks solid that should be able to do the install, and I really want to enhance the sound.

My biggest fear is: what if the parts are loose, or installed incorrecty? What if I'm now dealing with new knocking noises due to improper install? What if this becomes a nightmare?

Can some of you ease my mind so that I can pull the trigger here? We're talking about cats, this should be hard to screw up, correct? Thanks, buddies!
Installing Sports Cats is a Federal Crime.

That would potentially be an option, however you would more than likely see a pretty substantial fine. Not to play Debbie downer, but the risk just does not outweigh the reward. There have been some pretty high profile settlements with the EPA for the manufacturers of emissions modification products as of late, and you can pretty much guarantee that they will soon be going after the end users as well.
