Front axle lift reliability?
Hi guys,
For those of you have had FAL spec-ed on your 911s. How has your experience been with the function? I am torn whether to spec it on my 992 tts. The system is not cheap and I believe it costs around 15k if it needs to be replaced. I want to see if any of you have had issues with it, esp. passed the warranty period. Thank you very much!

It's totally reliable.
Just ask the majority of all the 991.1 and .2 GT3/RS owners (yours truly being one of them). FAL is engineered well. There's always going to be the random failures, but nothing on a systemic basis.
And, really, you're ordering a car north of CAN 200K+ and you're worried about the cost of the FAL option, which is probably around 1% of total MSRP of your Turbo S.

Oh...and $15,000 to replace a 992 FAL out of warranty?? Lawdy mercy, that makes me think twice about adding it to my build!

I had it on my 991.1 GT3 and it worked flawlessly.

100% reliability no issues, check for clearance GT cars are lower/less over hang may not need. My neighbor just got a 992 Turbo S, and his driveway is steeper than mine and he doesn’t use .......my Speedster I have to use every time to exit.

My 992 has FAL and I use it whenever I drive down a certain steep hill back my house. During the past 5 months I've enabled it ~10 times and had no issues.

It's $15K to retrofit FAL to a 992 without it. That is much more involved than repairing or replacing parts within an existing FAL installation, so don't expect out-of-warranty repairs to FAL to be that much. I'd similarly expect retrofit vs. repair costs to be similar for other options, e.g., adding Surround Camera to a 992 originally spec'd without it would be quite expensive whereas replacing one of the surround camera components is not difficult.

I probably used my FAL on my 991 GT3 at least 10 times in a week, if not more.

Driver's side seal/boot or something blew out on my 992 after 7500 miles/<6 months. Sprayed fluid all over the wheel well, but no code. Prior to this, I used it at least every time getting out of the driveway and back in, maybe at occasional parking lots...I figure 2 drives per day on average, so two cycles per day, easily 15-20 cycles per week.
Haven't used it once since getting repaired...I just take a much sharper angle in/out of the driveway.

I'm looking forward (when I get the car) to see how reliable to GPS aspect of the lift is. How many points can it store in memory?

I use it once a weekend when I take my Touring on or off my lift....and when I go down one particular ramp at an office building I frequent and it is brilliant. Much like Siberian, I am VERY interested to assess the functionality of the GPS enabled FAL on our new Targa but that will be 4 months down the road when we pull it out of storage. I would not be using an off warranty repair cost in my calculus to buying the option or not. For me anyway, just not having to deal with a weekly spine tingling’sssssccccccrraaape’ at the front of my car is well worth the investment...regardless of how cheap the plastic replacement spoiler lips are.

I've got a couple of spots in my 150 yard driveway that dip as I added drainage paths for water to spill over the embankment instead of down my driveway, plus of course living on 3 miles of gravel road (reason I didn't opt for PASM - I do NOT need the car to compete with my bobcat and plow my road).
All my vehicles, and no disrespect, are driven year round, as I'm not spending that kind of cash to drive it only when it's sunny. I test drove for VW/Audi/Bentley in their arctic test center and we put those vehicles (including the convertibles) through their paces in winter. And I mean WINTER; here. Companies spend oodles to test year round. Just a shame some folks just enjoy the fahrvergnugung only a few weeks a year.
I'll keep you posted

I probably use mine at least 4 times per day. I’ve had the car for around 5 months and in this time it has thrown up 3 error messages which have cleared the next time the car has started. It was a must for me when buying the car as our street isn’t tarmacced 😩
However, that meant we were able to buy our plot and build our new home on it after a guy with a Ferrari backed out of buying it since he couldn’t drive down the road. Porsche for the win 😂
