On my 2021 c2s. Been doing so since about 2 days after delivery. Currently in the shop for that and PCM maintains my car has been stolen and therefore my access to my car via the app is turned off. Other than that I drive it like I stole it. I love it!!
I have 2 irritating rattles that I would love to solve, and perhaps a dealership visit is in order though I tend to have terrible luck with these types of things. Dealers are never able to replicate the sounds, or they just push on something so it stops for a few miles and it's then rattling again by the time I get home.
In my 992 I have the following:
- Rattle in driver-side door. Seems to be coming from the plastic strip that runs near the top of the door trim.
- Steering column rattle. Sound comes from underneath steering wheel, inside of the steering column. Never had something like this in any car so it's an interesting one.
I was able to isolate and correct the harmonic noise in the Passenger Side Door Card that I was experiencing. My assumption is/was that the ultrasonic welds that Porsche (or their supplier) is using to assemble the Door Cards may be fracturing or a stack up of components secured by one or more of the welds are moving relative to each other and thus creating the noise. This would explain why external pressure on the trim strip stops the noise. What’s kind of interesting is this is not adversely impacting any mechanical functions of the door. Nothing seems to be physically loose in the Door Card Assembly when handled after it has been removed from the car. Also important; remove the door Card from the car and the noise stops completely. In any case the Door Card does generate a harmonic noise that pressing on the door trim stops. So anyhow, I did two things: First, I placed a very thin (~157 mils) 1/2" wide strip of self-adhesive closed cell foam across the strip of the aforementioned rivets. (See the attached diagram.) The other thing I did, and I'm sorry that I failed to take a picture of it. If one removes the Door Pull Module from the Door Card (#20 Torx) with the Door Card removed from the car, one of the #20 Torx retaining screws is threaded into an Ultrasonic Rivet similar to the ones used to attach the Door Card Trim. This Threaded Ultrasonic Rivet is apparently also used in the assembly process for the alignment of various parts of the Door Card Assembly. This is done by using a Ring that is a part of one piece of the Door Card Assembly. This Ring encircles the Ultrasonic Treaded Rivet. By gently manipulating this Ring, I discovered that mine was catching on the sides of the Ultrasonic Threaded Rivet it surrounds. This movement can take place even with the Door Pull Module completely installed on the Door Card. Anyhow, it made a noise quite similar to what I was hearing. I used a bit of 400 Grit Sand Paper to gently (and I stress gently) smooth the internal edges of the Ring and also the external portions of the post that makes up this particular Ultrasonic Threaded Rivet. The amount of sanding required is extremely slight. The edges (plastic flashing from the casting process) that catch on each other probably do not exceed 0.001" (if that). The only goal here is to allow for slight vertical movement between the two without one catching on the other.
This was sort of a shotgun diagnostic approach. Either one (or both) of the above may have "fixed" the noise without the other. However, I am not so motivated as to actually go in and remove the closed cell foam to see if the noise returns.
.
In the 991.2, the speakers in rear panel caused rattle for me. Under the screen there is a speaker and a tweeter. The tweeter is held in place by 3 plastic tabs. Really bad considering the screen for the speaker have 6 tabs.
I solved problem by placing electrical tape between the plastic tabs and tweeter. See Picture , you can see the tape at 12 o’clock position if you zoom in.
pop off screen, it is tight with six tabs, then I removed the speaker w T15 6-point so I could get my fingers behind tweeter to pop it out.

We likely have the same thing. Mine sounds like id imagine an inline fuse holder hanging in the middle of a wire and bouncing against something. I can replicate with any slight road bumps or even lightly tapping the accelerator. started around 5k miles and I cannot locate it.

I'm almost positive Porsche has issued a Service Bulletin to their Dealers specifically dealing with this concern.
Yes, in fact there are two Porsche Service Bulletins:
Bulletin # 122-P3B5Q-03 was published on 02/25/20. "Instructions for correcting noise from the steering wheel and shaft on the new 992 generation 911.'
-AND-
Bulletin # 87-20 was published on 06/16/20 "Instructions on how to rework the steering wheel cover in the event that there are squeaks from the area."
I've dealt with my share. Both bose speakers were rattling and were replaced. I had a rattle in the headliner that could be heard when closing a door or intermittently on the road. They removed the headliner and added some felt by the mounting clips. It went away for a while but has returned. I had a buzzing in the driver's door panel which was corrected when the speakers were replaced. I've had a horrible buzzing noise generating from the dash area. Dealer could not replicate it so I drove it for a month. Over the holiday my son and I went off for a drive and the dash buzz returned. I had just about had it and was ready to return home. He said it wasn't the dash but the drivers side rear quarter interior panel. Sure enough, I had him drive and he heard a dash buzz, I definitely heard it from the rear side panel. Amazing how the sounds can eminate from one area but to the ear identify with another area. Took it back to the dealer today to get it taken care of. Will report the results.

Rennlist for the win! Taking mine in next week! Thank you.

excellent! Thank you for sharing this specific information. Will take it to the dealer.
I have had a few intermittent rattles but what I notice more is a whistling sound. Can’t quite place exactly where it is coming from. Anyone else experiencing this?
