Not possible. The engine in the Turbo S is 3745cc, and the GTS won’t eclipse the Turbos.

Porsche's problem is that the S models are too good ..
they can't go NA because of the GT3 .. if you made a 475HP NA you blow your new GT3 sales in half
Porsche is way too smart to self cannibalize
The only good option is to bump up the goodies on a GTS model and perhaps re-map the engine with a lower top end like they did in the Panamera GTS so it drives / sounds more like a NA car
we'll see ... they need to out do themselves lol

I wonder if a turbo 4.0L (718) would be the 992.2 engine? Surely they need to get more mileage out of the development dollars...

I feel like the Turbo S will get some sort of hybrid assist in the .2 generation. Or they can just up the boost -- we know that a ~3.8L + turbo configuration is good for at least 700 hp in the 991 GT2 RS.

Since we're all speculating...

A lot of this discussion is pure wish list. From a marketing standpoint, it seems obvious (to me) that Porsche will slot the GTS between the S and the base Turbo, from a performance angle.

Same 3.0 motor with a tune. Comes with SPASM, Center Locks, Alcantara/Race-Tex and black sport design package. GTS specific trim, like dark aluminum and a bunch of GTS logos. Maybe a GTS launch color like Carmine Red or something. Possibly the option of a lightweight package, ala Turbo S.

Carrera S is 443 HP and listed 0-60 in 3.5 seconds.
Turbo (base) is 572 HP and listed 0-60 in 2.7 seconds
My guess for GTS: ~490-500 HP and 0-60 in 3.2 seconds.

I think the Cayman GTS is an anomaly. I don't see them being anything but conservative with the 911 platform.

I agree with all of this, although my guess for the GTS is closer to 480 HP. I also think Porsche may include PSCB brakes with the GTS. That being said, it would be interesting that the 911 GTS would be the only current GTS model that doesn't share the engine of the Turbo/GT model (de-tuned) instead of a tuned version of the S model engine--the Cayman, Panamera, Macan and Cayenne GTSs all use a detuned Turbo or GT engine.

Porsche is nothing if not consistent, but I still don't see them using a detuned Turbo engine in the 911 GTS. Maybe something more than just a tuned S 3.0 motor though--e.g., the 3.0 motor with the bigger VTG turbos from the Turbo?

My s cab allocation locks next month. Would be cool to swap allocation to a gts cab but likely won’t line up time wise. Alternatively would be nice if they added x51 power kit for the “S” but doubtful.

Given that these are all turbo based cars, I think there will be plenty of tuning options similar to the 991.2 base (I’m hoping&#129310

Would they release any "new" models at this point without core model updates and re-engineered/corrected quality issues? Therefore Im thinking were still a Full year away from GTS so it coincides more closely with 992.2. (I believe Gen 2's usually happen in year 4?)
By then, P will have 4 true years of engineering quality data to draw from and correct and customer complaints to rectify. No reason to release a GTS riding on soon to be corrected engineering and then have to re-release it a year later with updated engineering.
I cant see that making financial sense.

The GTS line is not that special -- in the 911, it is essentially just a package (X51 tune for the S engine, center lock wheels from the Turbo / GT3, alcantara, SportDesign fascias). Not very hard for Porsche to throw these parts on a car and slap a different badge on it since they all already exist as options or is easily made (in the case of a +30 hp tune).

The GTS trim will usually come a few months after the GT3 is launched and there will be both a .1 and .2 GTS.

The Turbo/Turbo S has a 3.8 (ahem...3.745) liter motor. So it's a unique power plant to the TT/TTS/GT2RS. I don't see Porsche cannibalizing their Turbo model that way for the GTS.

This is always the case for the GTS. It comes out towards the end of the .1 life despite the .2 update coming soon.

Automakers also can address quality issues on an ongoing basis, with the 992.1 already seeing improvements since launch.

The "Gen 2" or .2 is usually introduced in model year 5 of a seven year cycle. For the 997 and 991, The GTS was introduced in model year 3, so as a .1. It was then carried-over immediately to the .2 in model year 5. If that holds true, we'll see the GTS introduced as a MY22 probably sometime in the later part of CY21.

I mostly agree, thinking much of the rumors here is wishful thinking.. But..

911 - Everything is turbocharged, except the GT3 and GT3RS.
Cayman/Boxster - Everything is turbocharged, except the Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder

And then suddely out of nowhere came the Cayman GTS 4.0. What if.. Porsche does a N/A 911 GTS? It's not totally impossible.

I drove the 991.2 GT3RS in Portugal in november '19 (and also the GT2RS, Taycan Turbo S and 992 Carrera 4S) at a Porsche event at the Portimao track. The Porsche reps went to great lenghts to explain how they made the GT3RS engine possible. Keeping it naturally aspirated took a lot of engineering, including a separate throttlebody per cylinder. So on the basis of how difficult it is for Porsche to keep the GT3 from going turbo it seems very unlikely that they would ever go back to a non-turbo Carrera. Until they announced the Cayman GTS 4.0.

So possible? Yeah, a bit more likely I'd say. The problem is performance. The new GT3 is 502 horsepower, and the old one was 475. Slap the 991.2 GT3 engine in a 992 GTS then? Well no, the Carrera 4S PDK Sport Chrono car does the 0-100 sprint in 3,4 seconds. The old GT3 with it's 475 hp did it in 3.5 and the 992 GTS would be heavier so even slower. Slap in the 495 hp 991.2 GT3RS engine then? Well it did the sprint in 3,3 so only 0,1 second faster than the new Carrera S. And again heavier car so slower. The torque curve for the turbocharged cars is almost totally flat, giving it a torque advantage at lower revs which makes it hard for the N/A cars to compete and the new Carreras are SO fast. So what will they do? God knows. Probably just tune a Carrera S engine up by 30 hp and take lunch. But god do I hope for a naturally aspirated 911 GTS <3.

Anyways, my local dealer is into this stuff now as they're negotiating production allocations for the upcoming new models. They're confident that they'll get at least one GT3, even though they have signed contracts for two. They talked to me specifically about the GTS as I've had more than one and my license plate actually says "GTS". They say we'll know more about the GTS in march and they have one October allocation for a single car. That's it for 2021. If that's accurate it's really interesting because the 991.2 GTS was readily available in massive numbers. A while back in '18/'19 it seemed everyone and their dog had a 911 GTS. The 991.1 GTS was only made in few numbers in '15 and '16 and the 997 GTS was also pretty rare. Maybe they're going back to smaller production numbers for it? It could also be a problem in sourcing parts. Some options have gone missing from the configurator, like the Aerokit so.. something is up.
