I’ve said it before. The biggest misconception on RL is the perceived lack of engagement a PDK has to offer. The PDK will be as engaging as it’s owner allows it.
However, my stance has always been that if you aren’t taking your 911 to the track... MT should be your choice of transmission.

Part of the debate is too much driven by confirmation bias - on both sides. Personally, I am still haunted by the elasticity and poorly timed shifts of older automatic transmissions. PDK in manual is brilliant, but unsatisfying to elements of my brain -it’s simply easier to do and requires less talent. Watch the hand/footwork of a driver in a 908 doing a hill climb in Italy (video out there somewhere). I’m sorry, but yes, he is more of man than a driver with a DCT.

This again?
Just drive both.
Get the one that you like the most.
Never apologize for your decision, or feel like you have to justify it. To anyone.
Done.
Move on.

I agree 100% with the lack of a dedicated auto blip button. It’s just inexcusable and idiotic. I’m surprised that no one has designed an aftermarket plug in module to control the auto blip independently of the other modes.

One point(and this is completely a personal thing) that is missing from this article is that Porsche took away the ability to use the center PDK shifter in the 992, which for me was a huge let down(and major reason I went with a manual on my 992 build). As a previous 'manual only' guy who switched to PDK in my last 2 911's, I absolutely love the PDK with the center shift capability. In my opinion there is no clear winner to the argument, both PDK and Manual have their great points.

I can't drive manual (never learned).
Is manual driving so satisfying that you guys would recommend taking a manual driving class? They are only a few hundred bucks in my area.

Yes. It's actually pretty easy once you get the necessary muscle memory established in your feet. And, as I found out when I picked up my new Cayman after a twenty year MT gap, you don't forget how once you learn. And you get the bonus of a millennial theft deterrent.

When I drove the PDK the only time I told my self "I want this" is when I used launch control. Insanity! Other than that it's just another auto.

Three Wheelin'
Porsche's Number 1 priority is building the best car that will sell well and keep their brand alive. The same is true with the GT division. The more cars they can make and sell, the more money they have for R&D and to make and sell more GT cars. They can snicker at us all they want, but I dont care about the quickest lap time, or the quickest 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. I know a lot of their customers do, and as such, a lot of auto journalists do as well, and this stuff sells cars. I get both sides of the equation. Personally and selfishly, I want the car that is subjectively, to me, more fun to drive for how I drive it, second car, little to no time in traffic, occassionally tracked 4-6 times a year, and like to row my own gears, even if it means I'm a half second slower to 60 or in the 1/4.
