Nope! You are a true enthusiast. Dentist spec is any porsche 911 (typically a base cab though) that they buy for status only. Where they don’t know the car at all and only have it for status.
This has nothing to do with lawyers. It's about numbers, plain and simple.
The current style of side markers were introduced on the 911 in 1997. Since that time Porsche has sold way more 911s to the rest of the world fitted with clear side markers at the factory than USA DOT mandated orange. So saying the factory spec is orange markers is simply incorrect, it's the USA DOT making the decision to go orange, not Porsche. If it was up to Porsche AG clearly all the side markers would be clear and there are many dealerships here in the USA who will change their 911s over to clear side markers for the prospective owners before they even take delivery or the car is even sold.
Yeah, that is for sure. Who on earth would ever prefer the ugly amber lens over clear, wow but then again this is San Francisco, maybe the explosion of homeless their have popularized the "yellow teeth" look.
I'm in SF and I prefer clears. I imagine if you polled those of us in the area, preference for clears would win by a large margin. I will not allow SF to be known as the amber sidemarker city! We've got too many issues as it is. What a strange thread...

crazy politics aside .. and I fully agree people here are off the deep end … it’s a $120 part. If it was that popular outside of Rennlist .. it would be more common than not. I’ve yet to see one .. and I see a few 992s daily.

Maybe it’s because we here are “in the know” and realize that they can be swapped out. Perhaps if more non-RL owners knew about it it would be more popular because, as you said, it’s only a $120 part.
I have a degree in electrical engineering… I understand math.
US DOT dictates what a factory produces for the US… seems simple to me.
It seems simple to you but you fail to realize that almost every statement you have made in this discussion has been inaccurate. What it comes down to is that if it was up to Porsche they would not make orange side markers for the 911 at all. They would only make clear because clear sidemarkers are the vast majority of what they produced and sold for past twenty years.

I come from a family of engineers and yes you guys do "understand math" but very little else from what I have seen. Outside of engineering my father and uncles were wrong about everything else and that is not easy. Honestly could not stand to be around any of them for more than 5 minutes as all they do is argue and play devils advocate, never a normal conversation in their world. Everything turns quickly into a debate and a flat out confrontation if 50 cents or more are involved. They think they know all about everything but in reality are nearly always wrong.
Looks like 992Sam thankfully edited the verbiage of his post.
A friend of mine once stated that he preferred the look of the amber lights to clears. He has poor aesthetic taste in all parts of his life, so I wasn't surprised. Amber is just an ugly color that's there because of a dated federal mandate. It's not even a good look for jewelry.
Chalk is a wonderful, trendy color. It looks great on all vehicles across the Porsche lineup, including Taycans, Cayennes and Macans cruising my neighborhood.

I agree. The amber is an eyesore. They were designed with clear, and that’s what I prefer. But as you intimated, taste is a fickle mistress. 992 Sam has defended his yellow and red interior with weapon out and belly in (I bet he even knows who wrote that line). The Ronald McDonald spec is a tough sell, and I had a theory. Yup, checks out. Yellow side markers there ⬇️ as well.

I'm late to the conversation, but why does Porsche even make amber side markers?
Part of the law in US and Can. Amber marker lights look particularly bad on a car of non-neutral color. They're the first things I replaced on my 2 blue P-cars
