Has anyone purchased a new Carrera with the 19 and 20 inch tires?
my order is getting ready to be locked in and I haven’t sprung for the 20/21
any reason why I should, other than trade in value?
I don’t track my cars
I thought the C4 I test drove with 20/21's rode fine. But the ride should be a bit more compliant with 19/20's and there might be a bit less tire roar. Can't test that theory though as I've not seen one on my dealer's lot with the 19/20 combination since the car was introduced.
I got the 20/21 Carrera Classic wheels for summer, and also a set of the 19/20s with the new Pirelli Pzero Winters. The 19/20s ride marginally softer than the 20/21s on my PASM C4, but not as "soft" as I expected them to be. I am pleasantly surprised how good the 19/20s look on the car.
This fits into the S vs no s and PDK vs no PDK genre. There are firm believers on both sides
Those that believe the 19/20's are king attest to the fact that the car was designed with 19/20 wheels, that the ride is smoother. I have heard and I do not know if this is true that there is a little less grip as potentially less rubber on the road. The smaller wheels are lighter but likely by not much. They say that the 20/21's make the cars look toyish and prefer the look of the smaller rims and more rubber and do not like the trend to bigger wheels
On the flip side the 20/21 camp say the ride is very similar and if it bothers you, that with playing around with pressures there is little difference in the smoothness of the ride, that feeling a little more road is not a bad thing, that they fill the wheel arches so much better and make the car look better. I will tell you that when you look at dealer spec cars FWIW they are heavily steered to the bigger wheels
I went back and forth and got all sorts of opinions: Interestingly non car people that I asked preferred the smaller wheels and car people preferred the bigger wheels. In my Boxster the choice was 18 or 19. I had 18 for winter and 19 for summer and noted no difference in smoothness of the ride.
I had specked 19/20 and with 4 hours to go on my build close I swapped to 20/21 as 19/20 just never looked right to me - my opinion and mine alone - I am going to be doing 19/20 winter wheels and 20/21 summer and so I know that at least 6 months a year I will be thrilled and the other 6 months a year just happy. Come back in a year and I will tell you which 6 months
I also have the 19/20 winter set, they are great looking wheels. The ride with winter tires is a little softer but not dramatically different from the 20/21 summers. It might be those new Pirelli winter tires doing the trick which I don’t really know. The 19/20 does get more tire selections if you don’t have to get those N-spec ones.
I got 20/21 on mine. Only bad part is Michelin does not have a Pilot Sport 4S for the rear(21). My neighbor runs Bridgestone all season tires on his. They do not have a 21 either, Time will tell.
it comes down to so many factors. I have the 20/21, but these are just some of my points.
How much can you tolerate stiff rides? - example. I have a 2018 Audi RS3 with Audi fixed sport suspension on H&R springs on 255/30/R19 square set up - and it rides soo much more rougher than my current 911 set up, with spasm and pdcc. Even my wife thinks the 911 rides smoother. So it depends on if you are coming from a luxury car that drives like you're on clouds or coming from another sports/sporty car?
Another factor is your roads in your area? do you have nice roads, or **** roads? does your local government fix the roads or will you be hitting pot holes left and right?
Another thing to think about is that if you option the 19/20 you can always buy an aftermarket set of 20/21 or Instagram spec 21/22's and run the 19/20 as a winter set up.
