I'm looking to avoid taking it in, as it's a bit inconvenient for me in these times - I don't want to sit around in their lounge while waiting, nor do I have a good way of getting back home (and back there again obviously).

I played around with this and you can remove the oil and coolant cap, then the shroud and reinstall the caps. Then you can drive to warm the oil without the shroud. Should work I think. You will have to wait until cool down to do it in reverse.

I was under the car today. Can't seem to locate the drain plug. Any pictures or description of location would be helpful.

Is there any trick to removing the fan cover? I see now screws, but I don't want to start yanking on things until I know that is what to do and where to pull.

They pop off, no screws for the fans. Search on youtube there are quite a few for the 991, none for the 992 yet, but I assume it's the same as the former.

Do these plastic plugs click when fully locked or how do you torque or know when they're tight enough? I was hoping for a Fumoto valve as all my vehicles but it might protrude too much.

Not exactly. The fan surround is separate from the fans on the 992. Only the right side fan has to be removed. First remove the coolant and oil filler caps and pull up on the surround to remove. The fan is held by some rubber shock mounts that release as you pull up on the fan. Don't sweat it. You won't break anything.

Yes, sorry the fan shroud is separate as well as a gasket that has to be removed and then you pop (or lift) the fans out. You can only remove the right side, but removing both (don't forget to disconnect the electrical connections) gives you that much more room (especially for clean-up). Thanx for the correction eagle1960

It has a soft click. Or another way of saying it is that it snaps into place. It's quite clear when it is fully installed. No torque wrench needed, it's a fairly low effort thumb and fore finger (on the tool) operation. Know that it's the same when you remove it. So be ready for a lot of oil (9.3 Qts), in a fairly quick hurry when you remove the plug. I'd recommend a large and deep catch pan! LOL I use a 4-Gallon cooling system drain pan (see below). Good for catching the oil and also (almost as important) good for pouring the waste oil into a container to take to the recycling center.

What isn't is the shipping surcharge to AK. I just wish we'd surcharge our oil...

On my list to get at some point that shipping isn't a huge cost for me where I live currently.
