Is it really much different than the 991 process?

No. I honestly don't know why a DIY would be needed. The fan cover is much easier to deal with on the 992.
1. Remove oil and coolant caps.
2. Lift up and remove fan cover.
3. Remove right side fan.
4. Remove oil filter and replace cartridge.
5. Remove drain plug.
6. Watch oil drain.
7. Replace new drain plug.
8. Refill with oil.

Get a Fumoto oil drain plug and never deal with crush washers, plugs etc.

How difficult is it to get to the drain pan plug. Do you need to raise one or both rear wheels, or can you get to it without raising anything?

How did you reset the reminder? Or did you not? The mechanical part of this process seems easy enough, but I haven't found a service tool that supports the 992...

You can reach it OK, but you'll never get your hand, a drain plug tool (or screwdriver) and an oil pan of sufficient size to catch 8 quarts of oil in there at the same time. Either a set of drive-on ramps or a floor jack and a couple of (good quality) jack stands are pretty much a necessity. I use the later, but if I were to use a set of ramps I'd probably want some that would raise the wheels about 5" off the pavement. You might be able to get away with the 3" ones, but even if you can it'd probably still be kind of a tight fit. Others may have real world experience in this area as to which ramps work the best.

Oh yea, and for $10.50 (Amazon) you get 5 with the Tool! Such a deal!

I have jack, jack stands and ramps. Of course, it is difficult to use the jack points to jack and then put jack stands in the same place unless you have those special stands. On the other hand, on my 997 the ramps are so steep that the bottom of the car hits the stand before the wheels (anyway, I am afraid to miss ramps backing up when I am alone). So, my solution is to jack up each side of the car and then slide the ramps under the wheels. Very easy and safe..

The dealer will gladly reset the reminder for a nominal $400 charge (and throw in the oil change for free)! 😁

For those that are cost conscious....the first oil change is free (10,000miles)

Put two 2x4s in front of the ramps.
