Question Jaguar F-Type SVR or 992 Carrera S / 4S ?

Hey Gang - I'm thinking of either car right now and wanted your input.

Jaguar F-Type SVR - looks amazing, Supercharged V8 exhaust is brutal - but I feel thats about it. From my test drive, the drive was " okay " - but thing amazing. I think of this as more of a muscle cursing car, not a canyon carver. Sound, and looks win for this.

Porsceh 992 Carrera S - looks good, not amazing. Exhaust note is meh, but the driving experience is much better. Overall fit & finish of the car is superior as well.

I feel like the Jaguar pulls at my hear strings, while the 992 is the car I choose with my mind.

So what do you prefer? V8 intoxicating rumble and looks -vs- Amazing handling & quality ?

The F-Type SVR is no comparison to a 911. If you like the F-Type SVR, look to either move up to a Vantage or find a used Vantage. It's the car the F-Type wants to be.

Can’t speak on jags, but after a 991 & .2, the 992 just became a natural fit for what I look for in a car from looks to driving dynamics. However, sometimes I feel like I don’t give other mfgs a chance.

That said, I looked into a AMG GT/R before I pulled the trigger on the 992. It was the first time I even considered another brand & it was a close call. In the end, it came down to usability & the backseats. So I know what you’re going through when trying to make the perfect decision.

It will be worth an extra look for the second gen GTR when it arrives for MY22

What do you prefer? Buy what you want, not what others want.

Im honestly having a hard time with what I prefer.

At times I think Im okay with a more GT cruiser with looks to kill and that nasty V8 sound.

On the other hand, the 992 is the better more well rounded car - but I wish it had a better exhaust note to intoxicate more. Its a little sterile / cold... but yes the better car.

The SVR seems more fun. The 992 seems best in quality and handling.

Question is what will make me happy longer? Tough Call.

Personally, I am not one that likes the sound of the F-Type, either the first gen or this most recent facelift model. To say that the engine sound is contrived would be like saying the Grand Canyon is a hole in the ground. But if floats your boat, go for it.

Objectively speaking the 911 is just a better all around car -- both in terms of pure numbers, fit/finish, reliability, specs, and driving dynamics (e.g. lap times, handling, etc.)

But then you should never buy a car based purely on objective criteria. If the Jag speaks to you, then buy it.

At the end of the day, buy the car you like, not the one the Internet forums like.

TBH, it's a little silly to ask the 992 forum if they like the 992.

That said - I think the F-type looks dated and the spoiler is corny. Maybe I'm alone in this, but I don't think they have presence. A bit meh overall and a little try-hard with all the boy racer stuff.

The 992 is the better sports car, I'm sure. Never driven an F-type so can't say for sure.

I had a V8 Vantage .. which is essentially the same thing as the SVR.
Great car ... luxurious, quick and great looking with surprising good reliability.... but definitely not a 911
It's all in what floats your boat

Asking a Porsche 992 forum about a Jaguar, I do not think you will get the answers you might want to hear about the Jaguar. Your best bet would read reviews of Auto Magazines i.e. Car and Driver, Road & Track, etc. or Consumer Digest for quality & reliability. Jaguars reviews are poor as a whole..

Example: "The 2021 Jaguar F-Type ranks near the bottom of the luxury sports car class. The F-Type has spry handling, robust engine performance, and many standard features, but it's let down by its cramped interior and poor predicted reliability rating.Jul 28, 2020" Cars U.S. News

Example: "The other is that buying a 911 is an easy choice. You want a nice, sporty car? Buy a 911. Want something with a manual? Buy a 911. Want a nice, sporty, manual car with decent practicality and that's objectively good? Buy a 911." Aug. 8, 2020 Cars Business Insider

Really, what is there to compare, but your ride, your choice...Good Luck.

For what it's worth, I rented an F-type R for a few days and and thought the exhaust note was great for the first day or so. By the end of the trip, the car appealed much less to me.

Personally I'd recommend 992 and investing in an exhaust. Easy to address one the one weak point for you.

I test drove the Type R and SVR multiple times and I was open minded about it , and every time the car was underwhelming and the SVR engine is was over rated .. I felt car was sluggish Also handling and brakes were poor ...
if you need that v8 sound and power , your best is MB GTS or GTR ... they sound great , and they handle well .. only draw back is the shape and they are stiff suspension

Yep, when we're spending this sort of money you do need to be comfortable with the decision. But it's a decision only you can make, as others have said this forum will give you a biased view as I'm sure would owners on a Jag forum. Maybe see if you can rent both for a couple of days, assuming you're in a region with a service that provides that.

Had a friend who drove an R, now he's driving a 911 (991).
Jaguar will always be a Jaguar.

911. Not even close.

Well, except maybe valet drivers will like the Jag better...
