Default Opening the frunk with comfort access - any tricks?

I recently picked up my 992 and can't for the life of me get the comfort access to consistently open the frunk, It works like 1 out of every 20 tries. The doors are more consistent. Is there some trick that I am missing? And don't get me started on Homelink. It's even worse.

There’s another thread that addresses this—I seem to recall that you need to pass your hand from the front license plate (or where it would be) up to the Porsche crest? Apologies if that’s not right.

I just need to breathe in the general direction of mine. It can be annoying. Washing the car if the keys are close the thing will open over and over.

Exactly, I have almost 100% success after doing what the manual says on page 150: Place your hand between the Porsche Crest and the number plate. Either move your hand in a forward and backward movement or make a swiping action.

I now pass my hand just once from the closest edge of the bumper, crossing the top of the bumper and also the edge of the frunk lid up to the crest. I hold my hand very close to the car, e.g., couple inches. I think many people struggle because the sensor is more over the bumper area than over the frunk lid (and it's not directly below the crest).

I wave hand - palm down works much better - back and forth at top of the bumper cap 8 or so inches to each side of the hood crest. Keep hand an inch or two from touching the cap and it works within 2 or 3 swipes 90 percent of the time.

Door handles are another thing entirely...they work about 80 percent of the time for me just putting my fingers under the door handle, but don’t work at all 20 percent of the time no matter how much or how long I do the “access wiggle” at the door.

For my wife, door handles work maybe 30 percent of the time no matter what motions, incantations and under-her-breath admonitions are uttered to the Porsche Gods of Egregious UX. Of course, trip to dealer to address the situation resulted in “Cannot replicate owner complaint” on the work order. IMO this kind of bad design would cause Toyota, Honda, Kia et al to jump through flaming hoops to address the situation. We get the Teutonic shrug. As sales manager at local dealer has opined in the past, little niggles like this are part of the experience...”911-itis” he calls it. Dang good thing the cars are brilliant on so many other fronts...and that a key can be used to bypass it all.

I find it to work best (ymmv) by waving the back of my hand (fingerprints!!!) about half an inch from the car starting at the top of the bumper and slowly move towards the hood crest. "60% of the time, it works every time"

For me, it works 100% of the time when washing the car... and that's it. LOL

Glad there's this thread...will have to try what folks are suggesting. My doors work about 95% of the time but I've NEVER yet gotten the frunk to open with CA. I was starting to think I was mistaken in the frunk being a part of CA.

Well it's good to know Porsche kept this "feature" from the 991 to the 992. Was just going to suggest spray your car with water while key is in pocket. Works every time!

I recommend actually touching the car below the Porsche crest. I use the back of my hand to avoid fingerprints.

I have a 100% success rate. That's what the dealer told me. And that's my interpretation of the manual. Not sure what the concept of a wave came from, but these keyless systems usually work through touch.

Edit: that's also why I think car washing triggers it

Thanks for the replies. I've tried several of your suggested methods with very limited success. May need to get the dealer too look at it. Strangely, my door handle (at least on the driver side) seems to work very consistently.

I also do this and it always works. The door handles however are another story.

I've been pretty lucky and have great success the the comfort access, on the other hand it rarely works for my wife.

Swipe with the back of the hand works 💯 of the time.

I have a 991 instead of a 992, but sounds like the system is similarly quirky...

I get a big smile every time I get it to pop when intended on the first try (open the frunk, win a prize!), and get a big frown every time I wash the car and forget to stash the key out of range first...

Still, far better than the frunk issues folks are having on the new C8 Corvette with it auto-popping and flying up at speed. It has a two-stage latch, but they are BOTH electronic. Not pretty when the hood gets bent back into the windshield at 60 mph.
