To the folks that experienced CEL issues with their Soul Sport cats, was your car past the break-in period?

I installed Soul sport cats with just 11 "delivery" miles on the odo and I now have ~600 easy break-in miles logged and thankfully no CEL light.

John Gaydos is well aware of my concerns.
Light has come on twice. Cleared the first time at shop, second time has cleared itself with 400 miles so far and no light. Hopefully won’t see it again. No spacers and first time well beyond break in before install.

Ya, but the website says no CEL as in you also don't have to tune. The test pipes they sell state you need a tune but updating high flow Cats shouldn't. I want to get these but I don't want to tune and I don't want a CEL.

What's with these spacers? What's the purpose?

I fixated on these cats six months before taking possession of my car. I read essentially every post and information I could on Soul and Fabspeed cats. You might be right but the information out there definitely doesn't reflect that.

Hey Fellas!

Just an update for you on the CELs we've experienced on the 992 platform. It is our belief that some of the 2021 model year 992s have received revised software from factory that tightened the emission parameters, and this is no surprise considering the growing emissions restrictions in Europe and North America. The CELs did not occur on the 2020 model year vehicles during R&D, is not a consistent occurrence on the 2021 model years, and is quite rare for how many of these sport cats we have shipped out. The 200cell HJS HD cats are no doubt running the edge of what the cars' new emissions tolerances allow before throwing a P04200 and/or P04300 code for catalyst inefficiency. We have already used the largest cat possible for this car's fitment, and to use a denser cat would simply negate the benefits of sound/performance of doing high flow cats. An O2 spacer is therefore a logical option for an efficient and easy solution. O2 spacers come in varying lengths and restrictions, and the purpose is to reduce the amount of exhaust the rear oxygen sensors are reading by moving them out of the exhaust stream with the length of the O2 spacer, or narrowing the window of the exhaust reaching the O2 sensors with a smaller entry hole in the spacer. Done in just the right way for a particular car and product, it brings the readings further within spec to resolve catalyst inefficiency codes. If the spacer does not work well enough the same catalyst inefficiency codes can pop back up. If the spacer is too restrictive O2 slow response codes can occur as it has gone too far in the other direction. It is important to hone in on the unique length and restriction spacer that works for the 992 platform in combination with high flow cats, as "universal" O2 spacers are not a targeted a solution like they need to be for effectiveness on these newer cars. We have done that by working closely with a several rockstar 992 owners with 2021 model year cars that had those CELs pop up. They have been putting thousands of miles on their cars, working with us on various O2 spacer configurations to find the "sweet spot" for cars with more sensitive emission parameters. We believe we have found that sweet spot, as the CELs have not reoccurred on these cars running these particular spacers. We are making arrangements to have them handy to ship with every 992 Sport Cat order moving forwards, and to send out to any owners with sport cats that have the CEL pop on. This was a community effort with a bunch of awesome guys, and we appreciate all your patience and collaboration! We've got your back, and we always strive to be better for you and the rest of the Pcar community. If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to shoot me an email at johng@soulpp.com or give me a call at 267 818 3208.

Regards,
John Gaydos

Here's a photo of the spacers installed. Apparently I'm a fan of anit-sieze :-) A little over 3500 miles on these. 93 and 91 (Arkansas) gas. Hard driving and freeway.

Thanks John, looks like they won't arrive until next week.
  1. Is it ok to drive with the CEL on and before spacers get installed?
  2. Will the CEL self-clear after spacers are installed?

Assuming the CEL is on for P04200 and P04300 catalyst inefficiency, yes you can drive the car as if the CEL were not on. We have seen the CEL clear itself with and without the spacers over varying mileage, we have also seen owners that do not want to wait for the CEL to turn off and go clear the codes. If yours does not clear in a few drive cycles, I would recommend a reset.

John Gaydos
