^^Cool picture. And it looks like your camera is raised, with the shot looking down. How did you do it?

Three Wheelin'
Some obvious drives are coast highway from Morro Bay or Cambria up to Monterey.
Highway 33 from Ojai north to the 166, then west over to the 101 is great, although a bit of a hike if you don’t live in the area.
Highway 198 between San Lucas and Coalinga is awesome. You can also take the 25 north off the 198.
There’s Angeles Crest east of LA, Hwy 74 in Orange County, Hwy 76 in San Diego County, the “fast” and the “slow” routes up to Mt. Palomar, the 79, and on, and on.
And that is just a few in the bottom half of the state—I’ve not explored much north of the Bay Area.
Sorry for the thread drift, OP :-)

Thanks Mark. We'll be in Pasadena, and we'll be retired, so we will have all the time in the world. We get to California a few times a year and our daughter lives in Portland, OR, so we've driven the entire length of the state in bits and pieces several times over the years. We've been on the east side, the middle and the west side, but it'll be fun exploring some new routes. Unfortunately, all of our drives have been in rental cars, so we're looking forward to driving our Porsches. Our Pasadena house renovations should be done by October, and the 997 will make the journey first while the Macan stays in PA. Early next spring the Macan will get traded for the 992 Targa, we'll sell our house in PA, and we'll head west in the Targa.

People think we're nuts. My fiscally responsible friends tell me it's too expensive. My politically conservative friends say it's too liberal. My east coast friends ask why I want to move so far away. About 15 years ago, a friend of mine got a vanity plate for his 65th birthday. It said 20 SMMRS. I asked what it meant, and he said he figured he had 20 summers left to have fun. He's a very active guy who skis, boats, fishes, hikes and enjoys good food and drink (he's still doing all that at 80). Well, I turned 65 last October, and I'm looking forward the spending my 20 summers in a state with great weather, great beaches, great forests and great mountains and in a city with excellent food and lots of fun things to do. If it costs me a few extra dollars to do that, so be it. Sorry this post is off topic, but I'll post pics of my first 992 drive when I get it next year.
