It's prudent to consider cancelling, particularly if you are not able to afford the car without finance. There is a bit too much hyperbole on here about what other people might think/or do. I know this virus is serious and it will claim many more lives. With that said, the news has whipped everyone up into an absolute frenzy. The panic buying is nothing more than a negative feedback loop.

I've been waiting months for this car and I intend to not cancel. If I do cancel it won't be because I'm worried that someone is going to hate me more for owning one.

Don't want to cancel, but somewhat bummed that my order will be delayed most likely. Would have been a fun way to isolate myself.

If production will be halted .. unless you need your deposit back it might be best to just wait and see what happens, because you will be at the back of the line when production resumes and you're still losing money cancelling as well

My build is being delivered in about two weeks and I had serious thoughts about canceling. I had enough money set aside in January to buy my dream car. However, after losing money in the stock market and having a Real Estate sale fall through I began to wonder if completing this purchase is prudent.
With nothing but negative news out there and fear of the unknown how could one not question such a large purchase. There is no doubt in my mind we will get through this. If I am wrong at least I will ride off into the sunset in my new Cab with my top down and a big smile on my face.

I just read that after this is over, we could be seeing as high as 20% unemployment. Yikes.

My order is supposed to lock next week, but I am expecting a month delay. We shall see.

Porsche just halted production for 2 weeks (initially). If it doesn't improve the factories will be closed longer.

Mine locks next Tuesday so yes it will be interesting to see how this plays out. Here is a current picture of what is happening in Germany:

Agave, if Trump send me a $1,000 check next week, I'll send it to you, so you can still get your Porsche. Please PM me your mailing address. We need to stand together for the Porsche community.

Thank you brother, I appreciate the sentiment.

I was just about done with my 4th full year in my professional career, on the up and up. Monthly income just kept flowing. I am not so sure it will return to the way things where. I am self employed, solo office.

I would need to see 6 months - a year of solid money to make a commitment on a 140k gorgeous car.

With the Courthouses closed, I simply won't have an income for 6 weeks -2 months. We will get through it, but this whole situation put things in perspective.

I think I should have my house paid off before i buy a car like this, that's the takeaway, and may take 3-5 years.

My plan was to pay house off an Porsche off in 6 years with the income i was making. I don't think that flow money will come back anytime soon. I hope I am wrong!

But thanks guys! I will get one one day! We will all get through this!!!!

I'd say unless you're totally comfortable that you can a) afford the car, and b) be happy driving it, then good time to cancel your order. Not that that's much different to 'before CV' but worth remembering.

Interesting though how the longer term may play out, will cars scheduled for production once they resume stay in their allocated slots or will everything be pushed out? And will there eventually be a demand for cars with desirable specs produced through this downturn, as there is for manual 997.2s?

Unfortunately, I think we are headed towards a mild depression unless some drug is discovered with antiviral properties (at least improves recovery time) in the next 1-2 months.
Base case is Covid19 peaks in a month and almost 2008 like slowdown but could bounce back far quicker. Beyond that, depression is on the cards. I would not buy anything at this point!
Vaccine is at least 8-18 months away.
Governments should put more tariffs on China as its the fault of Chinese Government of permitting wet markets.

I heard they've come up with a recommended treatment of an anti-malaria drug combined with antivirals that are currently used to treat HIV & Ebola. It'll be interesting to see how new cases respond to this treatment compared to the initial cases. Pretty much the entire world is working on coming up with something to beat this thing.

humans and viruses co existed and fought for thousands of years .... Humans have two great weapons : 1. Brain 2. immune system
so far the human race is winning as evidenced by the earth's population exploding
yes we will lose some soldiers in the fight , but I am sure the human race will survive Covid 19
so let us be some what optimistic

I suspect that buying cars, especially high end cars, isn't on may peoples minds in the current environment. Let's hope that covid-19 infections begin to decline by May. Otherwise we may have a lot more to be concerned about than a substantial Porsche discount.
