In any case, the pro is: a lot of people think this GT silver really works well on these cars. The con is: it's super common.
At the factory in Germany, I was advised that 88% of the cars are silver, white or black.....

The words used above are not precise enough to make a decision.

The real difference is that GT is a warm silver and Dolomite is a cool silver....

Gt left, Dolomite right. Dolomite reminds me of polar silver. It’s very close to Silverstone Metallic for the BMW M3.

992 Dolomite, 991.2 GT Silver, 991.1 Rhodium

Dolomite surrounded by 2 GT Silvers. Rhodium Silver is nose to nose.

Dolomite vs. silverstone.

agree. It’s like a light ice blue metallic in the rain.

In so far as selecting silver, you should consider the following article

this article has valid points, albeit it’s dated from 2017. The flat boring silvers on Buicks, Toyotas, Hyundai, etc., are exactly that, boring. Gt silver, Dolomite, Polar Silver, Azurro Thetys, all have a ton of movement and have a chameleon effect under different lighting. to each their own...

I tend to disagree with that article.

The color enhances the shape of the car and vice versa.

Silver or gray or white or whatever can only do so much to enhance the shape of a crossover like the Buick Envision, and the rather pedestrian shape of the Envision really can't do much to make a color like silver or gray pop.

A 911, on the other hand, is a different story.

Partly cloudy, early evening/late afternoon photo.
In contrast to other grays in sunlight, Dolomite has alot of blue.
Had I seen it in the sunlight instead of in a showroom or at the LA Auto show, I would have spec'd mine with Carrera Classic instead of RS Spyder wheels (if going with Dolomite).

You can’t go wrong either way. Both colors are sublime.

That said, I ordered mine with Dolomite Silver and absolutely love it. Depending on the sun, it’s a very “bright” silver with a lot of interesting depth that plays into white-silver/blue. At night, I’d say it’d be hard to distinguish from GT Silver.

As a side note, since the color is so bright, I’m hopeful that it will be a bit more forgiving when it comes to minor swirls, scratches, etc as well.

From Moe at GP when he finished up my car a couple months back:

Standard Jalopnik poke-the-status-quo drivel, intended to get a rise from readers. Way back when, their schtick differentiated them from mainstream print and online rags; now they are the mainstream, with second-rate writers that think their myopic and self-righteous world views somehow equate to intelligent commentary.

This particular writer apparently thinks HIS color preferences - which is all they are - are somehow superior, more daring, more “with it” than anyone else’s, especially if someone for whatever reason likes grey, white or black cars. Or houses. Or dogs. Or shirts.

Totally agree- but I ordered and received a Dolomite car with the Spyder wheels and come fall will have the wheels powder coated either a color that matches Dolomite or a cool shade of a dark grey...

Colored center cap crests go a long way. The monochromatic ones look meh with a lot of colors.

I like Dolomite and GT Silver. Dolomite looks great on videos and presents a subtle change over the more common GT Silver. With that said, GT Silver is popular for a reason. It’s a classic, yet gorgeous color that really accentuates the lines of the 992. I’m torn.

Below is a video that shows both colors side-by-side:

The photos shown above with the vehicles in the showroom have me leaning toward Dolomite. However, once i watch the video with both cars outside, I start to lean GT Silver.

I believe one needs to see both colors in person and under different light to make a final decision.

It's funny you say that because I believe it was a Dolomite 992 I saw at the world premiere in LA that made me re-notice the 911, and then a Dolomite 911 at the same LA Auto Show the next year that made me pull the trigger on it. I believe both are Dolomite and looked dynamite with the lighting at the auto show. It looks very different in the sunlight, however.

Are these both Dolomite do you think?
