Default PPF Installer Nightmare

Hi Rennlisters!

I’m sad to say I’ve been through the ringer with the detail shop I chose to do my paint correction PPF install and window tint. Originally, I was supposed to get a full front + A-pillars and rear quarter panels in STEK Dynoshield. This shop is one of the couple in SoCal that offers STEK.

I got the car back the first week of Jan, and it was a nightmare...dust everywhere under the paint, multiple lift and stretch lines on every panel, seams not lining up, etc. The owner blamed it on the film itself (weird that he’s an authorized installer of the product, then). To make it right, he said he’d replace the messed up install with SunTek, his preferred product. I got the car back this week and the install is arguably worse. The owner is now saying that because my car is black I have unrealistic expectations and that there’s nothing more he can do. I’ve attached some pics. I’m looking for anyone who’s experienced something similar to help me find a way forward to getting it done properly without losing the $3000+ I paid.

thanks!

That doesn't look right. Tell the company give you your money back and go somewhere else. If he refuses, take him to small claims and report your experience on Yelp. You can dispute it with your credit card company maybe. What is the name of this place so no one else goes there?

That looks terrible. If I was in your situation and that is the best the installer could do I would have no qualms about disputing the charge with my CC company. Otherwise if you paid cash/check you could pay another detailer to remove and re-install the film correctly and try to take him to small claims if you think its worth your time.

Wow that is not good. Doing PPF right is really an art and requires loads of experience.
You should get a refund and get to someone who knows what they are doing. Do not let them touch it again.
I assume you had it paint corrected before the wrapping? You may need another polish before trying again.

Yep, that is no good and I would never accept that!! I really hope you used a CC (and always will in the future for these types of things). Move on from that shop.....run, don't walk. GL

The installer also said that these defects would 'cure out in a few days'. I'm not stupid enough to fall for that line. Tomorrow AM I'm going to take the car to another installer to get a quote for replacement of all the film. I will present the quote to this shop owner and ask if he'd prefer to pay them directly or deal with a charge back from my Chase Visa.

Water drops and some moisture marks will disappear after a few days (especially noticeable on black). Some of those marks will disappear but poor seam matching, stretch marks and crappy install won't disappear.
Cost me $3K for full front hood bumper/fenders, rear quarter panel and under the doors. No doors or rear bumper or engine cover and wing. Price May have been to good to be true.

Bad, really bad...I've got xpel on one of my vehicles and you have to go looking for it to notice there's even PPF on it, it's flawless.

As others have noted, the bubbles will disappear, but the stretches and misaligned film isn't going to correct itself.
It's shoddy work and given that this is their second pass already, they may not be up to the task. So much of this work is proper prep and that doesn't appear to have been done here.
Your expectations of perfect aren't unreasonable. Black isn't an excuse. Professional shops make your car look better than when it went in.

If you're in SoCal, I would take it to Moe at Glistening Perfection and have him assess it.

Don’t do that if you’re looking to take action to get your money back.

Are those scratches I'm seeing in some of those pics?
