I agree 100% that Porsche should have offered a manual transmission in the base car and I made some similar noise about it in another thread months back.
Porsche, along with the PDK sellouts should be ashamed of themselves as this is nothing but a pathetic ploy to force buyers into their more profitable S models or whichever "special" addition they choose to offer one in later on.

While we're doing petitions, I'd also like a 912T variant w/:
*I'm going to add this in case Porsche ever actually reads this: Contrary to recent practices, this wouldn't be a limited edition that would go for $180,000 and only be sold at dealer mark-ups to special customers, it would actually be less money than a 911
- 718's turbo 4
- a 6-speed manual
- passenger side rear mirror delete
- the plaid cloth fully-manual seats out of this very same company's GTI hatchback

I do agree they should at least offer it. With all the options across the range making most builds pretty unique it's incredibly hard to see how they could not have accommodated a base manual as well.

Agreed.. I probably still would have picked a Carrera S but it would have been nice to have the option to choose a base Carrera. PDK is a non starter for me.
That said, I don't know if a petition would have any impact on Porsche's behavior. Money talks and sadly it seems the tides have turned against manuals for 90+% of buyers so a small vocal minority isn't really a big deal for Porsche and they (along with all the other auto manufacturers) will keep on the path to killing off the manual.

My post was not meant to stir up a manual vs PDK debate. The PDK is superior, and paddle shifting is a great compromise. However, I just enjoy the analog feeling of a manual car. I also think it’s unfair to force someone that wants a manual into an S, when I highly doubt there is anything to gain regarding production line efficiencies.

While you’re at it, have them give up on the 30/31” wheel fetish as well.
Please.
I’ll be interested if they offer a base true 6 speed MT that doesn’t strip away all the insulation and save 0.1 ounce by having fabric loops instead of actual door handles.
And offer all other options and colors on the “regular” option list.
Not holding my breath. So, not a buyer for a 992 (yet).

Porsche builds what it builds, and sells what it wants. Wait for the 7-speed in the base, or get it in an S. Buy or don't; your choice. While you're waiting, this "sellout" will be enjoying his C4 with PDK (and maybe looking for a 6-speed 2018 4-pot 718 GTS, which is my view is a better platform for a manual gearbox than any non-GT 992).

Just spent some time in a 992 4S with 20/21s and PDK (of course…) and must I am very, very curious to try a 992 on 19s/20s with a 7MT. I have a hunch I would prefer it.
Don't get me wrong…the 992 4S is fabulously powerful and seriously quick in all situations, but I am not sure I need so much performance in a 911 for the street—and the 21s in the rear have some downsides in terms of ride and noise even on decent road surfaces. Increasingly, I am after experience > performance. A little less power, a 7MT, and taller sidewalls might really make for an appealing package. Thing is, the only way I can see to try said 992 is to configure an S or 4S with a 7MT and then head over to the parts counter for a 19/20 wheel & summer tire set.

I'm with you. If they have to offer MT on only one of the base/s model, it should be the base not S
