Even with significantly more horsepower and better tires, the 992 wins..

The price is somewhat irrelevant when you consider the premium build quality, materials and cost of labor in Germany... Truth be told, if you wanted to build a pure track car to beat either of those cars, you probably could do it for $30K.. but then you'd be sitting in a tube frame attached to a drive train and a suspension, while handling well, would ride like crap... the 911 is much more than just a sports car... Ever see the plastics used inside the mustang?

Well, too me, performance out of the 911 is the main focus. If I want luxury, I drive the Mercedes. If a new 911 (S) can't out perform a Mustang on the track, that is a sad day. And in regards to plastic, the last time that I looked at my center console, dash, steering column and other trim, there was plenty of plastic. Not knocking the 992 as I love it but touting that it is better than a Ford Mustang is like celebrating the Patriots winning over a middle of the road college football team.

Speaking of which, it's nice to see the Carrera prevail in a match up that really should be, GT350 vs GT3.
I dislike the regular Mustangs and they're ill tempered when it comes to handling, but that GT350 is a totally different kind of experience.

The new track oriented Mustangs are really impressive. I owned a 2005 Mustang G5 for years and loved that car, but the handling & ride quality were pretty poor. Really impressed with what they've done.
I'm not sure why anyone is surprised these purely track focused Mustangs hold their own with a 911. The 911 is a much more versatile, upscale, well rounded car; the Mustang GT350 and higher variants are meant solely as track & muscle cars. You CAN daily drive them but it's not a great experience.
