Hoping you guys don't honestly believe that Achleitner didn't know about the 4.2 when that comment was made. Regardless, happy to be proven wrong as I said.

SEB: post up your F3 videos.

Why did this thread get moved to a base 911 section? We're discussing a GT product.

The previous RSR cost 991K Euro and had the same piston size as the RS...?

GTE racing regulations dictate that the race car has to use a production-based engine, which so far doesn't exist. Doubtful that Porsche got a waiver for this, or that Porsche develops a new engine just for a few racing seasons. A 4.2 will come, if only in a limited production run to meet the homologation requirements.

Okay, so here's the question for Porsche GT3 customers - if you HAD to choose, would you prefer adding forced induction or hybridization to the GT3 platform?
VAG is slowly and openly marching in that direction.

I would say FI simple due to the added weight of hybrids... weight is your enemy on the track.

The Vonnen 911 adds about 170 lbs of net weight. Car and Driver says the 992 has a net weight gain of 60 pounds over the 991 (the kerb weights cannot be directly between the generations as the standard has changed re: options specified when measuring weight -- same reason why the 718 GT4 has the same specified kerbweight as a 991 GT3). Let's say Porsche can do better than Vonnen by 30 pounds and a hypothetical 992 GT3 + hybrid will be 200 pounds heavier than a 991.2 GT3 at 3350 lbs.

For turbocharging, as a rough measure, the 991.2 Carrera gained 111 pounds over the 991.1, and that the GT2 RS weighs 88 pounds more than the GT3 RS. If we assume a turbocharger + intercooler + associated cooling can be made to weigh 80 pounds, then a hypothetical 992 GT3 + turbo will be at 3290 lbs (80 pounds turbo + 60 pounds kerb weight).

Given that the difference is 60 pounds or so, I would take the hybrid option and retain the high revving character of the NA engine.

Good analysis and I agree. The N/A motor just sounds so good. A turbo would be such a shame. I actually prefer my GT3RS over the 2RS as the sound means more to me than the extra power.

I wonder if Porsche will further differentiate the GT3 from the GT3RS by offering the 4.2 liter engine at some point in the RS only.

VAG has committed to electric technology moving forward. So in my view, porsche will differentiate their performance tiers based on electric technology such as KERS, hybridization, number and layout of electric motors etc.

I'll bet GT3 platform remains NA, but with the addition of KERS, and some level of hybridization in the future.
