Default Removing PPF off 992 hips

I saw a few 992’s yesterday, and was looking at the white one they brought in. Not a big fan of the PPF on the fenders to the rear wheels. My brother-in-law has a 2011 Porsche 987 Spyder that has a smaller PPF on the rear wheel fenders but you can tell it gets discolored over time, and is clearly visible.

Has anyone removed theirs? If so, is it best to replace with a larger piece that tucks and hides the seams? Or can I get away with not having anything there?

My detailer removed mine and is replacing it with a larger piece of Suntek.

I think you'd want to have something there if possible. When I was driving the car around, I noticed that area picked up more stuff than even the front. It was by far the dirtiest part of the car.

replace with something bigger, do not leave it without protection, there is a reason Porsche install this from factory. That part of the car takes massive abuse.

Replace in about 2 years. When the OE product starts to yellow. On my 2014 white car, I had them replaced with a larger custom cut PPF in 2015 and just again last week.

^ Whole fender or just a larger piece than factory? Can't see a line in the photo, great job!

This. On my last 997 I replaced it twice in the 5 years I had it. When I tracked it that was the one area of the car that got covered by little rubber marks, thrown up from the front wheels. Generally I'm not a PPF guy but in this area I wouldn't go without it, especially on US roads.

I had a custom Xpel Stealth sheet made of which was applied over the clear Xpel. Sort of double protection.

Not the most slightly thing, but I really regretted removing mine on my old 991.2. Within two months that area was absolutely horrible.

If you don’t mind the cost, you can PPF that entire body panel including the C and A pillars. Then you have coverage with no lines. Some of my friends did that. But it is pricey.

Definitely double up the PPF on the hips, the area gets destroyed quick!

Okay so it sounds like the best option is to xpel and tuck the seams with a larger cut. I was hoping to just get rid of it without having anything there, but it sounds like that is asking for more trouble. So thanks for all the input.

does anyone know of a reputable xpel installer in the Central Valley or Bay Area?
