Default CARB State Status

Has anyone in a CARB state seen any change in order status? There is no approval posted on CARB website but I understand that posting on web sometimes trails by a few days. Has anyone been able to find out a clear message from Porsche of expected release in CARB states? My car has been in port in California since June 11. My current order status report says predicted exit from port is 9/27 but it also says in dealer inventory on 9/20. This seems impossible.

I have been following CARB updates once a week for 5 months now (my car got to Port Davisville RI on 17 May) and daily since August. The Planned and Expected dates on the tracking form are pure fantasy for cars that need to go through emissions approval like ours. [Rant Starts] What annoys me is that Porsche KNEW a year ago that their USA General Release date for the 992 was going to be in September, yet my tracking info was allowed to show my car in dealer inventory for 24 May (Planned Date) and 12 July (Expected Date) - pretty incompetent for a manufacturer that goes through this every year with one model or another... [/Rant Over]

The CARB website updates seem to be off by 1-2 days at most from approval date, and actual approvals seem to happen roughly every two weeks. My dealership and SA have no clue - I speak to them every few days to provide them with my latest info.

I have read elsewhere that CARB trails EPA approval by about 2-3 weeks, and EPA approval happened before 7 Sep when dealerships in TX etc started getting cars. So my best guess is that CARB approval will happen around 20-27 Sep and we should be getting our cars at dealerships a week after that...

How do you actually check CARB status updates? My car is also sitting in Davisville, RI, and I've been told that arrival at the dealership should be this Friday 9/20.

The following link is more direct but first indications might come from movement on Porsche Order Status report as actual CARB approval might come several days ahead of posting on their website.

I just checked with Rusnak Porsche and they had no CARB update. Hopefully the info you received is more up to date.

This could be based upon the seemingly not accurate and ever changing Porsche Order Status Report. Can anyone verify. You might ask your "porsche guy" the source of his information.

Morning all,

From PCNA in reference to my inquiring on CARB certification:

Begin forwarded message:

Dear Arturo Fis Menache,

Thank you for taking the time to contact Porsche Cars North America in regard to your 2020 911 Carrera 4S. I sincerely regret the circumstances that prompted your contact, but I appreciate you making us aware and for providing us the opportunity to respond.

Please be advised that the 2020 911 Carrera 4S models have not been officially announced as available for delivery to customers at their respective Porsche dealerships, as the current "street date" estimate for these models is September 20th. It is important to not that this date is subject to change at any time. Upon review of our internal resources on the status of your vehicle, your vehicle is not estimated to arrive at your Porsche dealership until October 4th, which is subject to change at any time as well.

I have contacted Porsche Downtown LA on your behalf and requested that they reach out to your directly to keep you informed of the delivery of your 911 Carrera 4S and notify you of any changes in information. I would like to kindly ask for your understanding that our authorized Porsche dealerships are individually owned and operated businesses and as an after-sales entity, we are not able to directly intervene with matters such as this and the Sales Manager at your dealership is in the optimal position to assist you.

Again, thank you for the time you took to make us aware of your concerns and for allowing me the chance to assist you. Should you have any further questions or concerns that arise in the future, please do not hesitate to contact us by responding directly to this email or calling into our Porsche Customer Commitment Center at 1-800-PORSCHE, Monday through Friday from 8AM until 9PM EST.

Best regards,

In short, no real info form PCNA except to pass the buck to its dealers as IF setting a delivery date was dependent on them. They don’t even bother to mention any holds - including CARB certification - that makes establishing a delivery date possible. Instead nothing but excuses, making things more frustrating. They’ve had many months to get any issues resolved before pilling pre-sold cars - now for more than a month - in US ports! Would also have been easy for Porsche to appease it's clients by offering a token financial incentive, acknowledging how disruptive and frustrating this process has become (I sold my car based on the delivery information they provided). Oh the arrogance or incompetence.

Here is what I wrote to PCNA last week, and posted on the Rennlist 992 Waiting Room board. Sorry for the "rant," but reaching my limit with PCNA after now my fourth delivery date postponement with no real delivery information in sight.

- - - -

As with many of you, been waiting and waiting and waiting on any word about CARB status. According to my SA, with whom I have a 25+ year relationship, PCNA is not sharing any information. Accordingly I felt compelled to send the following email today to several of the PCNA execs through the online portal here: https://contact.porsche.com/usa/dial...ion/contactus/

Not meaning to start a deluge of complaint letters to PCNA, but find it utterly inexcusable that they would not seek to communicate with their clients (or dealers!) knowing full well our excitement and anticipation, along with (like me) a need to know when you'll have a car to "get around" in. In any event, here is what I wrote:

Kindly forward to:
Mr. Klaus Zellmer, CEO, PCNA
Mr. Joe Lawrence, COO, PCNA
Mr. Trevor Arthur, Area VP, West PCNA
Mr. Angus Fitton, VP Public Relations, PCNA
Mr. Simon Kuhnimhof, VP Customer Experience, PCNA

Through your DTLA dealership, I secured one of the first production slots (#2206946) for USA model 992C4S. This car has been produced, shipped, and now sitting at the Port of San Diego since August 13, awaiting CARB certification.

Despite numerous inquires to my sales advisor, it seems no one can give me (or him) an indication as to when my car will be delivered. Though I am sympathetic to the regulatory process involved with the State of California, I am at a loss at the complete lack of communication between Porsche, its dealers, and its customers as to where you are in the process? Not a single word in the full month since my car's arrival! I even sold my current auto based on your delivery schedule, one that has now been revised at least three or four times with no end in sight, or understanding as to what is happening!

I cannot help but interpret the lack of communication as a sign of incompetence or, at least, as a resolute lack of care by the management at PCNA. Is my business and long tenure with Porsche simply taken for granted or not valued?

So here I am at a crossroads as to what to do next. Despite the passion and loyalty I've shared with Porsche going back to my first 930 Turbo in 1986, and continuing through 33 years and seven 911's, I find myself now at a loss IF I should move on to another, better organized, more communicative and appreciative brand or continue to wait and wait and wait?

In any event, the courtesy of a reply - one which shares more concrete information on the delivery of the car I ordered - is requested.

Would have been easy for Porsche to acknowledge difficulties, and perhaps offer a token financial incentive, acknowledging how disruptive and frustrating this process has become for many of us (I sold my car based on Porsche's delivery schedule, which has now been modified four times without end in sight). Anyway, here is their empty response:

The suspension of California's right to issue stricter emission standards is reported to be announced tomorrow. This would end CARB standards for all states that require this standard. It is not clear when this would be effective.

I was under the impression 992’s have had a delivery date of September in the US nearly all year, regardless of production dates. I do remember the dates briefly moving around, but I think it’s been September 95% of the year. EPA approval happened first, so Porsche released those cars.

Plan a vacation. Go to the beach and relax. The car will arrive in fall 2019. No need to panic in the summer.

Hopefully CA doesn't try to retaliate by dragging their feet on pending CARB approvals.
