Dealer gave away my allocation slot.

I can’t believe some of the wingnut reactions in this thread. It’s an innocent mistake, for goodness sakes. It's unfortunate, but innocent nonetheless. Someone forgot to put the allocation in KF status. Another employee saw the “available” allocation and put his client on it. Viola — a mistake is made.
They apologized. They admitted their error and gave you $2k because of it. Your inconvenience is a delivery date in 9 months rather than 8, and given the nonstop EPA certification delays, you may not have gotten it much sooner anyway.
The next time some of you guys do business with anyone, please disclose the following upfront: “Beware! I have rigid expectations of perfection and a zero tolerance for any errors—innocent or otherwise. If a mistake happens, I shall assume the worst intentions and announce it to the internet. You think I'm stopping at Yelp? NOT A CHANCE! Be prepared to be vilified by the wingnut wolves of Rennlist.”

The OP doesn't say where he is located. Maybe the dealer he ordered from is closest to him and the next one is 20 miles (or more)away? So, if he gets his deposit back and buys elsewhere, when he shows up for service or courtesy adjustments (squeaks and rattles, etc.), where do you suppose he will be in the service priority line? I'm thinking he'll be at the back of the line.
I'd try for a bit more on the discount side and give the dealer a 10/10 survey rating. If the OP has to deal with this dealer for service .... they have long memories.

So I've been out of town the last 10 days working a trip.
The day before I left I had a meeting with the salesman and sales manager, who were both very forthcoming about what happened; Apparently, another salesperson had switched my car over to their customer after hours, and without notifying anyone.
I was able to negotiate a $4,000 discount on a early November delivery slot, and got to add the aluminum shifter option that wasn’t available when my original order froze.

I went through a similar situation waiting for our 2018 Pana 4 hybrid. Stuck at port for 6 months for EPA.There were so many flaming comments about dealers , Porsche, Area 51, Bermuda Triangle ext via the forums. In the end, the car was delivered perfectly. My wife and I were patient, worked with our SA and things turned out fine. It looks like your the dealer has a valid explantation and giving you some extra pocket change to boot. Good luck OP, I hope things work out for the best. Waiting can be annoying along with what you went through, but in the end it just made our purchase a little more rewarding..

Same thing happened to me last year. We agreed on price and details, I was waiting for a phone call to sign the paperwork and last minute they sold the car to someone else. I have no shame in giving out the dealer. Porsche of Nashua. Perhaps business is business, but it’s no fun.
