Would love to hear opinions on the S vs 4S. With prior generation 911’s the 4S had the wide body look, but with the 992, the S and 4S look the same. So is four wheel drive worth the extra money?

Both my wife and I drive a 4S, and we live in central PA where it rains a lot and snows a lot. My wife's car is a true daily driver and has a winter tire/wheel set on it for the cold months. I try to drive my car as much as I can, but when it snows or there's a threat of snow it stays in the garage, and I drive my Allroad. We have found that the extra traction of all wheel drive comes in hand in both the snow and rain. And since I like the wide body and the rear light bar, if we were to stay in PA, I would choose the 4S over the S. However, next year we're moving to southern CA, and I'll also be ordering a 992. Since the S has the wide rear, the light bar, and a wet weather mode, I'm opting for the S over the 4S.

If you aren't driving in snow I'm not sure why you would want AWD.....extra weight etc. RWD is more fun too. 4S in snow would be amazing. To each his own.

For winter driving...AWD + winter tires is an unstoppable combination BUT RWD + winter tires is more than adequate for the majority of winter driving without the added weight, cost and complexity of AWD for the other 90-99% of the time the vehicle is typically being used on clean roads.
As for the rain... short of someone driving extremely aggressive in the wet or doing extensive wet track days or rally type events I don't see the benefits of AWD being utilized.
Are you in Jupiter FL? If that's the case I can't see why AWD would be even remotely necessary and I would definitely go with the S to enjoy your beautiful year round weather with!

Living in Missouri, I looked at both the C2S and C4S. However, I decided on the C2S since it’s not a DD and will not be driven in the winter. Unless you plan to drive a lot in Florida on wet roads I would go the C2S. The C2S will have more pure sports car driving dynamics with less weight in the front end, will cost less and will have one less potential maintenance issue. The only thing I miss with the C4S on my 2017 C2S is the wide body.....but that will be taken care of when I get my new 992 C2S since they are all wide bodies. Good news......you can’t go wrong with either!

Dunno about the 992, but at least on the 991 the C4 had better steering feel than a similarly spec’d C2.
This may no longer be the case on the 992 given the additional rake of the car with the larger 21 rear wheels.

Yeah a couple of reviewers have commented that this swapped with the 992 and the S has better steering feel...

Thanks for all the feedback. I’m a little slow on the uptake (that’s what age does to you) so my initial reaction was to spec the C4S because of the 4 911’s I’ve owned, my 2002 C4S was probably my favorite 911. I’ve had a 1985 Carrera S, a 1999 Carrera, and a 2012 Turbo Cab, but the C4S stands out. It was great looking, simple to operate, and drove like it was on rails.

If its not about limited budget, I would and did go for the 4S. Although the big benefit/argument from the 991 - the wide-body shape - is gone with the 992, I prefer having the better traction in case I would need it. And for sure this is not only the case in snow & rain but anytime the surface is not 100% perfect.
Do you really need it - i guess no. Is it a nice to have, increasing the (techhnical) performance feature, although gaining some weight - for me it is a clear yes.

I’m with you on the traction and handling. For me it’s not so much a budget thing as it is having an over spec’d car and getting killed on trade in.

Depends on your location and driving habits. Here in Midwest, 4s.. plenty of varied driving conditions, it allows you to drive in them all
