Car and driver published a reasonable detailed hands on preview of the 992. https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...11-992-preview
Some positive items within - they mentioned both PDK and manual availability, plus the plan for full reveal at the LA Auto Show in November - and some negative items about some interior cost-saving measures.
Great article!
The S variant seems like a good step up. Gts level power with all the new tech and pdk2. For the same money (with the price increase) i would prob just get a 991.2 gts. I would really need to see one in person to decide.
992 C2 does not sound exciting vs 991. At all. Too many negatives and more $. I bet the S outsells it by a big margin this time.
Great article. Porsche is clearly listening to us within the bounds of business and regulatory forces. I think the PDK guys are not going to like the shifter though. Glad I'm a manual guy.
I find it interesting that they are only increasing the HP for the C2 by 15hp. Clearly the 991.2 C2 was robbing sales from the C2S. In the 992, there will be a 65hp spread now between the C2 and C2S.
I prefer the tail lights on the 991.2 and do not like the exhaust coming out of the bumper, nor the squared off hood edges. And if the interior is as they describe, along with no real center console buttons, I really will not like it. Also, if I had to wait until what I am guessing is 2020 for a manual Targa GTS I am glad I have a 991 on order. Each new version is always better in some respects so it boils down to what one likes in respect to looks, which has to be the primary consideration.
So the good - more power. Better integrated intercooler outlets. Larger inrercooler. Better flowing manifolds. Available PSCB’S. 360 cam and other doo-dads. The bad. Noticeable cheapening of interior. Dumb PDK shifter. More $. Same weight. 8 speed PDK...it’s not good in the Panamera at low speeds. Stupid staggered tire setup with 21’s on rear, which raise the car. Piano black a fingerprint nightmare. Touch screen controls take massive eyes off road....in a sports car. Faux exhaust tip “finishers” replace real tips. Hideous 3rd brake light. Cast iron manifolds?
Ugh, reading this article makes me not want this car at all, TBH. And honestly that’s not something I felt before. Aren’t leaked specs supposed to get to get you excited?
looks like the rear wing can be adjusted as there are at least 2 levels of height on the cars. or maybe different package like regular pasm and pasm sport i.e. 991.2.
Quite the mixed bag. My one huge concern is the price $$ increase. The GT market has softened with resale pricing and I think for the Carrera line, they are pushing too hard. Starting base price of around $119K for an S model if correct is insane. Optioned out you're at $140K minimum.
I think we've peaked with the current economic run. They have a chance of getting burned, especially with overpriced electric cars which nobody will buy if we have an economic slowdown.
i hate to be the new 991.2 owner talking smack on the new car, and im sure it will perform great. but it seems like they are focusing a bit more on building a well rounded luxury car for everyone vs sports car for a more niche market. this is definitely a trend that's been continuing for the past few iterations though.
Fake exhaust tips for insurance issues? 360 cameras with rather cheap feeling interiors? Not sure if they are really focusing on the right things
I wouldn't listen to those comments about cheap interior. All they've seen is a mule. Lets wait for the final product to see what materials are used and what options can be specced to make it better.
I can totally imagine them trying things out using cheap plastics during the design process.

What is the issue with the exhaust? The only difference is that the tips are mounted to the bumper instead of the pipes, no? Not sure you can call that "fake".
