911 TTS vs DB12

911 TTS vs DB12
My daily is my 911 TTS. It’s the perfect balance of power, handling, comfort, ergonomics and creature comforts. Above all, it’s super reliable and really allows you to fly under the radar. Resale in general is also very good.
Being a car enthusiast of course I wanted to see and drive the new DB12. I have no issue stating that it’s beautiful both inside and out. That is where my appreciation stopped. I drove the car for about 20 minutes and felt very uninspired.
For one, it’s BIG and you notice the size. The exhaust note is blah, the 911 TTS with PSE isn’t much better. And the car just felt very uninspiring and underwhelming. I felt as if I was almost driving an SUV. I floored it a few times and while it’s quick it doesn’t have the linear power band of the 911. Just felt very torquey and then lost steam. I didn’t get much of a chance to toss it around but I sensed that it would be floaty. The 911 seems so connected to the road and I feel like an F1 driver when I’m going around twisties.
For anyone even contemplating the DB12 coming out of a 911 please heed this word of advice. DON’T. I felt at peace and smiled when I got back in 911 and started it up. There really is no substitute to the 911. I fully understand now why the dealer had preowned models sitting for 1/3rd of the price of what they were new. It’s a no brainer why the 911s hold as much as value as they do.

I thought the new vantage was meant to be a direct competitor?
while the depreciation does suck and has kept me away, I drove the last gen vantage and I thought it was a hoot. More fun than my 991 TTS.

It is, but we're talking about the DB12, which is probably more luxo-GT cruiser than sports coupe (like the Vantage).

I'm tempted by the new one, love the interior finally..TTS power with RWD only has got to be a ton of fun
just hate the depreciation curve on them.

How does it compare to 812/F12?

By that train of thought, we shouldnt compare any ferrari to porsche including 488 Pista to GT3RS. Pista also costed more than twice the cost of 991.2 GT3RS when it came out.

Drifting
I had a chance to drive the GTS back when I bought my 2015 turbo S. It was not the car for me. I did not like the way it felt. I did not like the high belt line. I did not like the inability to see the road in front of me.
I know it was reviewed as a great vehicle and I’m sure it was. It just wasn’t for me. It may have been because I was coming from another 911 and I just wasn’t used to it.
I never had a chance to drive the vantage.
Before I got my current car, I did consider just keeping my last turbo S and adding a vantage. But every time I thought about it, I thought back to when I drove the GTS and didn’t really like it.

My wife and I have owned several Aston Martins (in fact she currently drives a DBX) and several Porsches. We were excited about the DB12 because we loved the reviews and thought it looked great in the photos. We both had a chance to drive it and I’d describe our reaction as ‘meh’. My wife drove it first and when she got out of the car I asked what she thought and all she said was ‘it’s nice’…which I thought was a little odd because she loves Aston Martins. But then I drove it and she’s right, it’s nice, and strangely it looks better in photos than it does in the flesh. After our drive we sat down with our salesperson to build one and it came in at $285,000, which we’d happily pay, but not for a car that’s just ‘nice’.
