Default Launch Control conundrum

So my 992 TTS that I picked up a few months ago will not launch when in sport mode. Asked my SA about it because I remember reading on here and in numerous reviews that launch control does indeed work in sport mode. He informed me that the car only launches when sport+ mode is engaged. Is this possibly something they’ve changed with a software switch or is there an issue with the car? TIA for any input.

Not sure, but on the 991.X versions LC would work on other settings besides sport+ - just at a lower RPM starting point. Not sure exactly what the 992 is supposed to do - but I thought it was the same, but maybe not - or something has changed.

I had a 997TTS with launch control, and it would only launch in Sport+. My understanding is the same is true of my 992TTS. Haven't tried since the car is still very new and low miles. Launching in Sport mode would be news to me. Will follow, as this is interesting to me.

The manual claims it only works in sport plus and it's a 5k rpm launch, but I believe it also works in sport mode but the launch is only 4k rpm, at least in my car that what happens

it works in both sport and sports plus mode. Sport mode has 4K rpm hold and sports plus has 5K rpm. Your SA is clueless.

It’s amazing how many are clueless, even with brands like Honda?

Whenever we buy a new car, we join the forums, read everything about the car. The salesman on the other hand, never even reads the brochure.

I recently took delivery of my 992 TTS at PEC LA and the instructor who explained the features of the vehicle stated Launch Control is only available in Sport Plus, and that launching outside of Sport Plus places enormous strain on the driveline components in the transmission. He said there have been cases of people burning the clutches within the transmission due to improperly launching the vehicle outside of Sport Plus.

I did find it interesting to hear something totally against the grain from what I’ve been reading here regarding launching in Sport and Sport Plus. Perhaps someone with more knowledge can provide further insight as to why the Manual states Launch Control is only activatable in Sport Plus?

Interesting as the guys at PEC Atlanta said both modes work perfectly.
The softer suspension setup and lower RPM launch would tend to give less stress on the transmission and clutch but that's just my opinion.
I can attest it works both in Sports and Sports + mode and the sports response button does kick it up to 5K RPM on sports mode.

How hard it loads the clutch has much more to do with release times than rpm and suspension. There's a posibility that when Porsche programmed a softer launch, they incorporated a slower clutch release not to stall the car at lower rpm. Stuff like that is very hard on clutches. That could explain why Sport has burned up clutches, and why they have since disallowed Sport launch.

Understood. Are you saying that the new batch of 21 and 22s do not come with launch mode in Sports mode?

The car is not at risk of stalling when the rpm at launch is 4000 instead of 5000. I cannot see how a clutch release would be materially slower at 4000 rpm so as to risk burning up the clutch.

Nope. Only Sport+ for the 991.
