Default Need a value tonight (NOT a appreciation or depreciation Thread!!)

To All,

Need a favor - very good friend interested in a 2021 992 911 Turbo S. It is essentially a new car (less than 500 miles). It is optioned to the max - sticker $250K. He is considering purchasing tomorrow.

I really need to give him some good advice. They are asking just over sticker. Seems strong to me. Anyone bought one lately and have real pricing data? Please avoid "well I think....".

If you are uncomfortable sharing on this tread please PM me. The info will kept confidential.

Thx!!

If he can get his hands on a Manheim MMR report, that would tell him all he needs to know. One needs to be a dealer to get one.

Otherwise, as you hint at... he can look at car gurus, KBB, Edmonds, Autotrader, ebay motors and take a straw poll. .

Is there a reason this car should command over sticker? Is this a titled vehicle regardless of mileage? On the face of it unless there is something truly compelling about this particular car I would not pay the asking price. Historically these models undergo significant depreciation while being driven off the lot. There is no reason the 992 Turbo S should be different.

Considering the value will be roughly $150k in a year I probably wouldn't pay over sticker. Some dealers have a lot of nerve.

This question is probably better suited to the Turbo forum. Most GT owners, I fancy, would not pay that kind of coin for a Turbo S. A fully loaded 991.2 GT3 with PTS went for about $200,000 (ask me how I know). I, for one, always thought the Turbo and Turbo S were overpriced for what they are, especially now, with the turbo-ization of the Carrera. How much horsepower does a driver really need? And can it really be utilized on public roads without risking jail time? Sure, the same could be said for a GT car but I have a MT GT3 which I find engaging, even just pooping around town. I took the car to redline in 2nd gear and almost to redline in 3rd gear on my drive home from work yesterday. What an event!

In California, a $250,000 car is really a $275,000 car after taxes and fees. Gulp.

This right here. Should be easy enough to order one at MSRP if you're willing to wait a few months... zero chance I'd pay over sticker for a Turbo S.

They are hard to get.

The earliest the next batch of TTS cars to arrive stateside will be late 4Q 2021.

So cars on the ground are indeed rather rare birds.

Not saying a premium on a used car is a good or bad deal, but that there is a paucity of actual TTS on the ground, or for the foreseeable future.

Interesting information. While dealers can be unrealistic in their asking prices, they are not typically insane. So there is a supply constraint that likely motivates the dealer’s pricing.

The title and the bold quote above says it all. Wants advice tonight and he'll buy it tomorrow. This buyer is in a hurry to get one. Is he a sucker to pay over MSRP? Not if he really wants one NOW. Would I pay over MSRP? No way in hell, not for a TTS that I can order exactly to my spec and get delivery end of this year and at most pay MSRP.

I would offer around 175 - hoping they say no. Other cars are plentiful

I tend to agree with the sentiment of the crowd - why pay over MSRP. With that said the following Turbo S sold on pcarmarket for $255k, according to vinanalytics that’s $18,750 over! Go figure...

Everything new and used is at a premium value right now. Case in point my wife’s Velar with 10K more miles than 8 months ago is worth more on a trade then it was back then. These are crazy times. Looking for a new RR and they laugh when you ask for a discount on an ordered car.

My motto may be different than the others here and many will disagree. Is paying over sticker overpaying? Maybe. You’re friend can obviously afford $250K. Can he afford the premium? Probably. Is it the perfect spec for him? If so and the other option is waiting for an MSRP car to come up or an allocation, what’s the price in driving it now? To me it’s worth a small premium.
