992 ST LWFW & Clutch fitted to 992 GT3
#256
So Carrera guys would need a Carrera specific flywheel, and then can use this clutch.
What we could and should do, as I’m a 991.2 7MT owner, is reach out to Sachs Racing and see what they need to make a kit for us, it could be measurements or maybe a sample OE clutch and flywheel. They would make the flywheel for us and sell us the clutch kit.
My best guess is $4k all said and done. The clutch itself is about $1500.
Or we buy the clutch from Sachs and have a state side machine shop make us a flywheel
I would ideally want the new clutch to hold more than 600 ft lb for our torquey turbos
Source: Have been involved in many custom multi plate clutch builds for Japanese cars such as 4G63, 2JZ, Nissan Patrol TB48 for dune drag racing
Those Nissan Patrol guys in the ME are harder on clutches and turbos than anything I have ever seen

Yes and no. GT3 and 991.2 and up Carrera use the same exact clutch… however. This clutch needs a specific flywheel. The GT3 and Carrera flywheels are different because of engine differences.

Thats great info! I would be down for such a project.

A single mass lightweight flywheel doesn't make much sense in the turbo'ed 991.2 and 992, they rely on torque and you won't gain much in throttle response or much performance compared to a simple tune.
now @Jbravo23 where's the update? You're killing us members of the unwashed masses over here...
is the conversion working? Stable? Reliable? Any regrets?

True that the changes in rev response won’t be as pronounced as a N/A car but there are still benefits… this is also more than just a flywheel, it’s a conversion to a racing style multiplate clutch.
We would benefit from the additional holding capacity of the clutch, as of right now an aftermarket clutch that can handle the torque of the bigger turbos such as Tial M660 on race gas or E85 doesn’t exist, so boost strategy is being used to reduce load on clutch. Additionally we would benefit from the increase in shifting times a multi plate clutch allows.

@AdamSanta85 thanks for the info. What is your best guesstimate on weight savings using a LWFW and clutch on a 7M? I don't plan to go higher than ~500hp so not sure it makes much sense unless I can save 20+ lbs of unsprung weight. If I can be in that range, I'd be down to pursue this.

lets start a thread in 991 or 992 Carrera forum, I feel like we (I) am taking this thread off topic for GT3

Put a couple hundred miles on today. It was 60 and sunny and I got a bit too excited and ran to 9k once the oil reached temp. I hit second hard and it feels as though this clutch grabs harder which would makes sense as this being a racing clutch. Said to myself holy s***. This thing is serious : )
I did stall a couple times. It requires more involvement especially at a stand still. If you try to take off using clutch alone it bogs down, so much so that it doesn’t just stall smoothly like with the original clutch. I’ll have to make a video soon of the dash and show it.
Reminds me of a 964 when you start it up.
Can’t get over the noises there’s so many depending on where you are in the rev range. It is raw and I love it.
No regrets, no issues so far (~400 miles). It’s an event every time I drive and that is exactly what I was looking for.

How much were the parts from Suncoast? Will you be putting it in a GT or regular Carrera?
