That said, I'd be wary of putting an aftermarket SMF setup in due to the massive cost in case of unlikely failure (and this OEM route is just absurdly expensive)

Well done @Jbravo23 for doing this - I started this thread in December as it’s something I would love to do myself too and your efforts are a great inspiration - fingers crossed you rate the driving experience and have no issues.
The reason I posted the question in the first place was due to the fact that my first GT3 was a 996.1 with full Manthey K400 conversion which included a lightweight flywheel and clutch. I loved the way that car chuntered (technical term) on tickover and it sounded like a bag of nails in the engine - it sounded like a race car would sound - at least an old school one. It had real character and added to the hardcore edge of that car, especially with the upgraded KWv3 suspension too. I miss that old school feeling, but also love the 992 GT3 manual and whilst I want the hardcore looks and track performance and happy for it to be compromised on the road, the thought of having some of that old car feel through the drivetrain is really appealing. Potentially, in my view at least, this could be even better than the ST….
Anyway, can’t wait to hear your thoughts after you give it some beans on the road

I'll be very interested to hear his thoughts. Same with you, I did major suspension work as well as a lightweight flywheel on my 993 and it turned that car from a grand touring car to a hard core sports car. GT3s are very refined in comparison - very polished and docile when needed, but a LWFW makes the car a party 24/7. There is no escaping it. The drivetrain becomes a raw nerve and the sounds are pretty race car, which is good or bad depending on your perspective. I never get tired of the feel, but the noise can occasionally get on my nerves if I'm puttering along at low RPMs in traffic, which is something I hardly ever do in that car. Needless to say, on a DD this would be a tougher one to live with for some people.
I believe Singer got around this characteristic by using a medium weight single mass flywheel and I wonder if Porsche did the same to temper the chatter. My car has solid trans mounts and its likely that the mounts Porsche uses for the GT3 have more give, which can also offset some of that issue, not to mention the dynamic engine mounts (as opposed to the hard rubber RS mounts I have on my 993).

I appreciate you starting the thread. I always knew I’d pull the trigger once the part numbers became available. Thanks to @Yannick-HST as he really got the ball rolling.
Unfortunately break in after going down that rabbit hole is 500-1000 miles. I will play it safe and stick to the 1000 mile marker. Street driving, no engine braking no high revs etc etc. I will be able to get a feel of the revs with clutch disengaged. Then full beans!
Now where’s my damn Uber driver?
