This is almost verbatim what I was told. He said sometimes if you wait until the last minute and someone drops off, you can get lucky. But that is a very unlikely situation and think he said it just to give me hope, which I have none of at this stage.

Alcantara on the steering wheel is a must! It's the smallest thing you can do that completely changes the feel of the car.

Best bang for the buck in the Porsche world along with buckets and PCCB.

It's a preference item for sure, and certainly mine. Had to CXX my Touring steering wheel and shifter to alcantara. I've never liked the feel of a leather steering wheel, although aesthetically they look nice.

Alcantara on the wheel and shifter has the same effect that carbon buckets do for me, it creates an experience

Complete opposite here. Feels like the back side of a hide that's been roasted in the sun, hard to maintain, and aesthically looks like a sponge. It's also amazing they charge the same amount for synthetic material that's mostly polyester and in the Touring 's case, more as a CXX option.

Maintaining alcantara is no more difficult or time consuming than maintaining leather. If alcantara looks like a sponge to you I'd hate to see what you clean your dishes with

I don't disagree that it should have been a no cost option for the touring, like leather was a no cost option for the winged

Are you being serious in this post? I've got 6 different Alcantara wheels that'd say otherwise.

I drive with ventilated gloves with Alcantara wheels now ONLY to make sure oils from hands don't get on wheel and ruin them.

Auto detailing is one of my biggest passions. My garage is set up as a professional detailing bay. I say this to say that I spend considerable hours both researching and detailing cars. Alcantara is extremely easy to maintain, not different than leather. You clean/condition it in the same intervals you would with leather, just different chemicals

using gloves, but not cleaning/conditioning the material is not going to keep it clean.

Good Ole fashion dawn dish soap strips the oils well and saves the ducks too.

After 10 years and 7 different chemicals I've had the best luck with Sonax in terms of maintenance and restoration (friends cars that had matted alcantara from no maintenance)

https://www.obsessedgarage.com/produ...d664c0089c10bf

Dawn may get rid of oils but it won't condition or restore. There are great instructions in that link above about how to bring your wheels back to life as well. Give it a go.

I daily my Touring and never once used gloves outside the track. It's not necessary if you maintain it

Afraid of your answer, but as I now have my first car with Alcantara, how often do you clean it? And do you use that sanding pad shown in the link?
