I dont see the hope here. Its a PR statement managing expectations. I find it unlikely that volume of production these factories deal with can be transitioned to an entirely different location(s). We are looking at multi-week to month disruption and even when it improves, it probably won't be near regular output.
My SA contacted me & gave me my VIN today. The ‘scheduled for production’ milestone on TYD also completed today after being offline most the day. It really goes to show how inaccurate TYD can be. My build week was pushed from 3/11-3/18 to 3/18-3/25. Can a VIN be produced two weeks before the car ‘starts’ production?
I'm in the same spot. Have a VIN and slated for March 18-25 production.
I was also curious about having a VIN this early...from previous builds my VIN was issued after production started...maybe we got lucky and production started early : )
My car started production January 18, latest estimated CP date now is March 25th. So for me the start milestone has not been meaningful. The milestone dates on TYD should be viewed with some degree of uncertainty. I am sure the TYD has some value giving schedule information but it can be well arbitrary.good luck maybe your car will be true to plan.
I wonder if parts for 991 cars will be non-existent? I need a new windshield, headlights, and still waiting on a sun visor (been more than 10 weeks now). Also the PCCB rotor shortage is still very real.

There is no special 991 parts factory. Whatever problem affects 992, will affect 991 as well. My GT350's brembo rotors have been out since November. The GT350 oil filter has been out for months now, what used to be a $14 filter is $110 in ebay. The supply issue is real and it affects pretty much everything. I have not been able to buy a video card for my computer as they have been backordered for 6+ months.
Suppose to trade my Lotus in Friday in hopes of getting my GT3 in just over 3 months.. If that's going to change i'd rather not give up the Lotus right when it starts getting nice out in the midwest..

I think you’d have to be crazy to pre trade any car for any other car in this environment. Things have been getting worse and not better for 1.5 years now and the war just started. I would hold on to your Lotus if I were you.

I sure am thinking about it lately.. I don't want to miss out on the allocation but I certainly would like a car within 3-4 months and I'm unsure if that's going to even happen now.. The dealer acts like it's all fine but I know too much.

Sure they will. The dealer that wanted my RS also was acting that way in January for a June build car giving me assurances that I’d have a car state side in September. Guess what, if I took that allocation and pre traded my RS, A) my build would be pushed by 3 months due to PCCB shortage and B) the ukraine war would probably add another weeks of delay. I’d be lucky to have a GT3 here in December and thats if things dont get worse.

From (horrible) experience, DO NOT under any circumstance pre-trade a vehicle. Especially in this very uncertain environment. When you do, you lose all leverage, you’re pushed to the back of the queue, and treated horribly. You are held hostage. The dealers encourage it, because they are desperate for inventory, and want to take you out of the market. The only recourse you have is to get a check for the value, lose the trade credit if applicable, etc…. I have been without a vehicle for 18 months and counting. It will be TWO YEARS if my car shows up on schedule. When I pre-traded my car on 10/3/2020, I was promised a vehicle by March-April 2021…..DON’T DO IT! Run for the hills!!
Won't I give up the allocation if I don't though? I already know that's the first thing the dealer will say. " We have so many other buyers, if you don't want the allocation just tell us"

Then comes the “magic question “, as in my case, do they REALLY have an actual allocation? Will you get a commission #, or are they preselling allocations they may never get? Learn from my hardship. Take the pebble from my hand Grasshopper….

I do have a commission number already.. Ughh. Not sure what to do. Definitely don't want to lose the allocation!
