Default GMG Racing - 992 GT3 Track Prep!

It’s time for some serious track testing now!! We’re test fitting this set of 19” Forgeline GE1 wheels with Pirelli slicks, and it’s a good look! Stay tuned for more!

How's the caliper to wheel clearance up front (since the disc diameter of Irons grew to 408 mm)?

It looks like I will never get Connect R's so this would be perfect!

Very close.. Tolerances are too low for track use, so some solutions are in the works.

Meaty! Racecar.
Any issues with the 19” Forgelines clearing lower control arms or other suspension components in the rear?

Forget about the suspension....they are too close to the wheel barrel for track use....the irons on the 992 (and GT4RS) are only 2 mm less than PCCBs.
Guess we will need to go AP RadiCal or PFC brake kits in order to use 19" wheels

Part of the process is test fitting parts/wheels. This will be a thread containing all track related prep for this car.

Yep. The more I think about this, the more I suspect that Porsche uses a massive 20/21” dia wheel setup on the last generation RS and the new GT3, along with giant brakes to fill those wheels, in order to discourage owners from fitting Hoosiers and full slicks for track use. If Porsche wanted to make it easy to fit a 19” setup for track use, they would have designed the car around smaller but just as effective brake systems such as the AP or PFC setups used on the Cup cars. Porsche has stated that they recommend against slicks on their GT road cars because of the greatly increased stresses that slicks place on suspension components, etc., stresses that the road cars aren’t designed for. They certainly don’t want warranty claims generated by such use. So it would make sense that they would purposely design the road cars in a manner that actively discourages the use of smaller diameter wheels that accommodate slicks. Plus, the 20/21” stock setup brings that bling that the marketing department loves!

So wait a minute…these wheels can’t be run on the track as mounted yet also can’t be driven on the street due to tires that aren’t road legal? What’s the point. I have a set of 19 Forgelines ordered, a little nervous now

Isn't there a member here running the 19' wheels from his old 991 RS on his new 992 and having success?

We’ve set up lots of 991 GT cars (without PCCB) with 19”+ slicks and no issues. Tracking any car heavily will put a strain on components. Adding aftermarket parts to any car will change the functionality of the vehicle vs leaving it 100% stock. Early trial and error is part of the learning process and just comes with the territory when pushing a car to its limits and attempting to make it better and faster than stock.

There are motions in place to figure out a few solutions. This is part of the process of upgrading these cars. Learning exactly what works, what doesn’t, and what works well. Don’t be nervous, just patient
