Does anyone own a centerlock Torque Wrench?

On my first car that had centerlocks, I used a torque multiplier. It worked very well, and took up very little space. I'm doing the same on this 992, but I also got a digital torque gauge as a double check given that a torque multiplier has more internal friction and can reduce the precision overall. So far, getting to 600Nm is pretty easy with the torque multipler.

Having said that, if cost is no object (within reason), the best solution IMO is the renntorque setup Grant linked to with a nice 1/2" splitbeam based torque wrench. It is the best solution because you can use it without engaging the brakes of the car. Having to energize the brakes with a second person or a clamp adds a step to the process of taking on and off wheels, not to mention makes changing brake pads or bleeding more difficult.

I think the Renntorq is a cool solution, but they do recommend clamping the brakes (just not as hard as you have to clamp them without the Renntorq).

The Hytorq electric wrench doesn't need to have the brake clamped (unless the bolt is a tough one and requires more torque than the gun can provide to loosen - then you have to use a breaker bar with the brake pedal and steering wheel held steady).

Torque multiplier is the safest way IMHO other than Renntorque. Needs a brake clamp but no need to hold the steering wheel.

I have Precision Instruments Kit, in fact 2. it’s easy to swap these wheels quickly at track, and it is not difficult. I used to think it was a challenge and was a bit worried based upon posts here, but once I leaned the process it’s so easy. The key is having 2 extra lock sockets… that way you don’t have to keep swapping the socket between the breaker bar and the torque wrench. The 3rd is to help screw on the nut easily by hand once the wheel is in place, while leaving the bar and torque wrench built with the sockets still in place. With this method 2 people can swap a set of wheels very quickly and efficiently.

There are lots of options. I went with the Precision Instruments and it has worked well for me that includes a pretty robust wrench and breaker combo (I went with extension on the breaker).

Both of the above require that you maintain the centerbolts well, or you'll also need a huge 3/4" breaker bar to loosen occasionally.

@Htownbdr Thank you so much for putting up the video! I had no idea that the center lock socket and cap removal tool came with the car! (Mine isn't scheduled to arrive until March.)

This video is simple and I feel like I understand the whole procedure and toolset. Excellent!

Biggest difference is that you have to pop out the locking mechanism (jiggle with opposite end of little dust cap tool) to securely lock the 991 and that’s no longer necessary with 992.

Did the socket pop off the wheel if you did not hold it on with the 991? 997 Did not do this. Socket popped off and dropped on the side of the wheel and chipped the paint. The only positives I see with this is that it happens because the lock spring is very strong and possible the new lock design on the 992 vs 991. I didn't have any trouble getting the locks to engage to the correct depth. This was a PITA on the 997.

Really overall just a stupid contraption.

What is good jack pad / lift pad, as not to interfere with the brake ducts? I don't think my old Rennlines will work.
