It didn't have tech lords who live to monetize and weaponize everything, delight in the destruction of privacy, pay no taxes and exult in disruption that puts millions out of work. On the other hand, southern California had aerospace titans who dealt in nuclear war gaming and megadeaths. The LA smog was fiendish.

Atlanta? Well, a few attention seeking grifters in Buckhead have been getting national attention lately about how we live in a war zone but I walked my dog late last night. The traffic is miserable but Atlanta is one of the ten largest metro areas in the US, so what do people expect, exactly? It's indeed up and coming. I'd like to stop paying for election recounts and investigations. The racial diversity of the city is heartening. The music and entertainment industries are amazing - three or four big productions filming a block from my house in the past couple months. Good to see them back.

I think the GT3 manual episode was idiotic. But find me an idiocy-proof state and I'll move there.
Can you get anymore hyperbolic with that broad stroke of tech? I've been to Atlanta and no surprise have zero interest in living there. Summers are way too hot and schools aren't great. I'll take Stanford, Caltech, and good weather here any day.

You all can bad-mouth California as much as you like, but the reality is that they sure cleaned up the smog problem. Los Angeles back in the 80s is smog city and you couldn't see through the haze 100 yards ahead. Last time I went there a year ago, it was pristine clear skies and refreshing. The mandatory standard did make a difference. If anything that changed was more and more traffic on the road and you can spot the likes of Porches and Ferraris in abundance.

I'm a native Californian, grew up there. I think it's the most beautiful state in the US. Stanford and Caltech sure, but don't forget Laguna Seca ... used to go with Skippy's series years ago. You're lucky to live there. Be well.

Sure, there are some nice places to go but that applies to many parts of the US that have better all round and more accomodating environments.

The Porsche decision is clearly business based, they probably would have liked to sell manuals into California but they have the demand elsewhere and do not see the value in making a different GT3 manual for California. In terms of innovation and entrepreneurship - the glory days are behind for California. In the industries I'm involved in e.g. advanced composites, mechatronics, battery technologies and strategic metals - California is well behind other parts of the US and the developed western world.

Diversity is a meaningless buzz word unless it comes with cohesion and mutual respect.
Queue the single case anecdotal evidence..

Its not a debate - thats the way I see it based on my experiences over about 30 years and having watched the rank ineptitude of the current state government unfold.

Apple, designed in California. Made in the PRC. Thats says it all. A thin veneer of sophistication hiding an intellectual, moral and ethical vacuum. That may sound harsh, but you can't have your cake and eat it - you either do as your beliefs dictate of you're a hypocrite.

Looks like Porsche have negotiated with which ever required authority...........the manual GT3 manual will be sold in California.

Porsche has adapted their 911 to a gazillion models carrying the same marquee for ages. So changing some parameters to meet California's restriction is not a problem at all. After all Porsche is a business now owned by VW. Take for example the 911 models that Porsche now offers:
911 Carrera base,
911 Carrera 4.
911 Carrera S
911 Carrera S4
911 Turbo
911 Turbo S
911 GT3
911 Targa
911 Cabriolet
911 Cabriolet 4
911 Cabriolet 4S
911 GTS
911 GTS4
The list goes on and on and there are more that were not listed here.
So Porsche's position of not creating any models to retrofit to California's market just does not hold any water. Besides, Cali is the biggest market for Porsche. It used to be 911s were unique and designed and marketed for the enthusiasts, but now it is more of a boutique brand that caters to everybody as long as you can afford it.
