Like California emissions requirements of the past; why can't Porsche develop a baffle of sorts for Cali bound cars to circumnavigate the decibel issue? seems like an easy fix.

Driving around a new GT3 with out of state plates is a huge red flag.

They've learned to document every day spent in either state. It's always a **** show

The only question that really matters is whether or not they can still be registered here in CA which I'm guessing they might be able to.... in which case we can all just order from out of state dealer and check the box for PECLA delivery. It may just be Porsche dealers in CA getting screwed here out of their absurd markups they'd make on these cars.

The issue has to do with an outdated California Code of Regulations testing procedure (SAE J1470) that dates back to 1992, when manual cars had four or five gears. A newer version of this test -- SAE J2805 -- was made available in May 2020, but it has not been adopted by the California Highway Patrol. "We understand that CHP has been planning to update [the test] to incorporate the new SAE procedure," Porsche said. "At this juncture, we are awaiting this regulatory claim."

Vehicle Code 27151

(b) For the purposes of exhaust systems installed on motor vehicles with a manufacturer’s gross vehicle weight rating of less than 6,000 pounds, other than motorcycles, a sound level of 95 dbA or less, when tested in accordance with Society of Automotive Engineers Standard J1169 May 1998, complies with this section. Motor vehicle exhaust systems or parts thereof include, but are not limited to, nonoriginal exhaust equipment.
what about all motorcycles and Harleys, Lambos and Fcars are much louder than any Pcars.

ARTICLE 2. Exhaust Systems 27151 b) For the purposes of exhaust systems installed on motor vehicles with a manufacturer’s gross vehicle weight rating of less than 6,000 pounds, other than motorcycles, a sound level of 95 dbA or less, when tested in accordance with Society of Automotive Engineers Standard J1492 October 2008, complies with this section.

GT3 Manual revs (almost to) redline following the approved testing procedures, PDK does not: https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a3...as-noise-test/

I was thinking of the same. A more restrictive air filter to be exact.

what a dumb test. it makes absolutely no sense with how they conduct it.

basically with the pdk car - they have to give it just enough throttle to not trigger a kick down while taking 3rd gear from 30mph to the end of the testing area.
for the manual car - they put it in 3rd and go WOT to 'nearly redline' (i'm guessing they run out of space on the test strip just before redline is achieved)

so pdk car is doing like 4-5k rpm at half throttle at the end
manual car is full throttle at 8.5k at the end.
or something like that.

Exactly. Almost on a daily basis I hear these abominations. But a manual GT3. Can’t have that. So stupid.

That sort of sentiment is how California got where it is.

If anyone is dropping their CA dealer allocation due to this I'll take it. Please PM me. Thanks.

Please explain. Because I don’t like the sound of straight piped Harleys? Or that laws are not enforced?

You don't like the sound of straight piped Harleys but perhaps you love the somewhat unrestricted wail of a NA straight 6. That is likely your opinion correct? I don't like the sound of Harley's either yet I'm willing to tolerate the costume pirates who ride those bikes as I wouldn't want what I enjoy to be legislated into the restrictions we see now with the manual GT3's.

Harley got in trouble with CARB a while back with their Screamin' Eagle bikes and had to pay a stiff fine. Now from what I understand is that it's nearly impossible to get aftermarket exhausts for bikes in CA. Once gov't cracks open that door they typically bust through and try to control everything.
