Hey, everyone. I sold my Carrera T late last month, but had prior already been talking to @zylinderkopfdichtung about visiting with him in person during an upcoming trip to CO. Despite having sold my car, I was still curious to hear his Soul “straight-piped” catted turbo back exhaust which has been discussed above.
First off, let me say that despite making several cellphone videos/recordings (cold start, cold start idle kick down, on-road), I am not posting any of those here, as having heard the car in person, the recordings did no justice to the real-life experience, due most likely to mic/speaker limitations.
My major impressions of the exhaust are two:
First, the cold start is pretty outrageous. With no valves left in the system on removing the PSE muffler box, this is a seriously loud system for the first ~30 seconds until the idle speed drops, so if you’re faint of heart or living in an urban setting with small lots and other than enthusiast neighbors, proceed with caution. However, once the idle speed dropped, I would say the sound was not drastically louder than what I recall from my stock T.
Second, this system addressed what was always my biggest disappointment with my car, that being the interior sound level and quality on-road. Coupled with Vektor headers, this system gave the T an aggressive sound in-cabin, without being obnoxious or overly drone-y. Drone was present on throttle only between 2K and 3K, and was what I would consider minor. Turbo spool whistle was far more noticeable than my stock car, which I found a pleasant addition. Seat of the pants, his car with Vektor headers, Soul 200 cell cats and no muffler box (big weight savings) felt not drastically, but perceptibly quicker than what I recalled of my car.
If I had still owned my T, I would have installed this system on my car in a second, given what I said above about my feel for the stock system, and the fact that I live in a rural area where the cold start sound level would not have been an issue. After my visit, zylinderkopfdichtung let me know his wife had since driven the car and ruled “thumbs down” Caesar-style, so he will likely be removing the system and making it available for sale. For anyone with a 991.2 who feels as I did about the in-car sound, you might consider reaching out to zylinderkopfdichtung to discuss his nearly-new system.
A big thanks to zylinderkopfdichtung for his hospitality during my visit. He is clearly a knowledgeable enthusiast across brands, both concerning the cars themselves and with a wrench. His pursuit of the lightweight T ethos for an improved subjective driving experience with his car was well aligned with my own thinking. It was a a privilege and pleasure to visit with him!

No plans, but thanks for asking : ) We've played around with it and found a much better ROI for our customers playing with the cats and headers on the 991.2 PSE platform rather than building a muffler replacement. Reason being the inside of that muffler with valves open is pretty much a straight pipe, resulting in the more notable restriction point on sound improvement and performance being the headers and cats. Here's a brief explanation of it I put together awhile ago for reference. What are your goals for your car? Perhaps I can point you in the right direction given a little more information.

@Soul Performance
Is it still valved? I don't see any valves.
How much louder is it? any droning?
I had the Trackback with cats on my 911 and I loved it, but my neighbors didn't like it. Anybody interested in a lightly use Trackback with cats system?
Currently running the PSE with Soul cats and it is great. Would not mind a bit more volume at WOT.

Wow, you weren't kidding, John! This is wicked. I was just thinking about this new x-pipe you mentioned was in development again recently - I was the one emailing you a while back about the x-pipe trackback idea. Crazy timing.
Can't wait to hear what it sounds like!

I’m actually a little excited about these new designs for PSE.
The big questions are, with so much extended path and crashing into each other, will performance be sacrificed?
I guess at my level of power it doesn’t matter. It might to someone who is far more stock. If the sound is significantly improved, I’d be ok sacrificing 10hp.
Will you offer them in Titanium or Inconel?
Tubi catless
I need to hear how loud the non valved ones were first, as I am catless. PSE does a great job of keeping it quiet when closed. When open the pops go off like gunshots.

Today is an exciting day! I just picked my car up and drove it in varied conditions for about 1 hour. I have the valved version.
I had chimed in that my car was used to develop both the valved and non-valved muffler for the 991.2.
Before we get started, my car already had the Soul Headers and Soul Sport Cats with the stock PSE muffler for about 2-years now. I live about 40 minutes from Soul, so it was pretty easy to get my car to them for the development.
I also have the Tial intercoolers, Tial inlet pipes, BMC air filter, APR tune.
Initial start-up impressions: The first time you hear it start up - there's a difference, big time.
It sounds angry right away before vacuum builds and the valves close. It is sound that you can feel in your chest. I did chuckle a bit as it gave me a very large smile. It had a presence that I didn't know was missing.
Once it came down off high idle and the valves closed - I could still hear it! With my previous setup (stock PSE), when the valves closed, it sounded like it was neutered. Zero sound at all. Frankly, it was a bit embarrassing because even with the headers and sport cats, it was just no sound.
Now, you can hear it. It's not obtrusive with the valves closed mind you, you can just hear the exhaust. O
pen the valves at idle and it sounds so different now. Deep and rich tone. The car sounds like something special.
Driving Impressions:
Soul is about 2-miles from the PA Turnpike, which is where I'll start my impressions because I was able to spend about 30 miles at highway speeds almost immediately.
Of course the majority of time is spent cruising at highway speeds. I ended up right around 2,100rpms for the majority of the trip. Regardless of which mode you're in, you hear the car. With the stock PSE muffler, no matter what mode you were in, it was really quiet and tire noise was the majority of the noise I hears (Michelin PS4S). The sound is there. It is does NOT drone. I was in a 2004 CTS-V with a Magnaflow exhaust years ago and will never forget the horrible drone. With this setup, when you're cruising, you can hear it and have a normal conversation without a problem. Roll onto the throttle and cabin is just enveloped with the beautiful sound of the exhaust. Of course this is all with the windows up. Windows down, wind noise cuts the sound a bit, but you can definitely hear it. I typically drive in Sport+ mode because I prefer the slower throttle ramp and the instantaneous response of the turbos. TBH, there wasn't a huge difference in sound while cruising between Normal and Sport+ sound. A richer, deeper tone was found in Sport+. Sport mode is another story, Even at highway speeds, you can FEEL the pops. The car just sounds so nasty and like it wants to run.
All in all, highway driving is just what I was looking for. More sound, no drone, richer tone.
Jumped off the highway and drove some back roads moving through the rev range and working the gearbox (my car is manual).
Windows down driving is so much fun. You can definitely hear the car now. You can actually tell it's loud vs. someone telling you that your car is loud (with the stock PSE muffler). The aural interface with your right foot is just so much fun.
In Normal Mode - you can hear the tone change from stock. It is louder, obviously, but not too loud. It's a good balance. Windows up - you hear it everywhere. Again, not obtrusive, just fun.
In Sport+ Mode - much more of a richer, louder tone. The turbo spool sounds epic and the noise is just so sweet! It gives you more of a feeling like you're driving and exotic car. Working the gears up and down, rev matching is just so much more fun. This is the mode I'll continue to drive in most often.
In Sport Mode - O-M-G!!! The pops are on another level. You can physically feel them in the seat. The entire car sounds so angry and like it wants to rip someone's head off. The level of sound, even at low speeds is so epic! I drove very slowly through my development in Sport Mode and it sounded so good! I switched to Normal mode and it definitely won't **** off the neighbors.
Quality looks very nice as usual. Like I've said, I've had the Soul Headers and Soul Sport Cats for 2-years and have had zero issues.
Overall, super stoked that Soul came out with this product. Definitely made a huge difference. I know John is traveling this week, but they want to have something up on their website by next week.
LMK if you have any questions. Right now, I'm the only one with this.
