John & Soul Team, thank you. I am in love. Sport cats + headers = perfection. Can't wait to outfit the Spyder and Macan PS, I need more stickers

Looks great! Did you add a tune too? I bought a Softronic tune from Soul and its insane the amount of power it adds. Pulls like a tesla! Been on the fence about exhaust mods but def on my list.

I just got the setup in the picture installed and have done a quick shakedown. Some background:

I've got a 2019 911 Carerra T configured nearly as lightweight as they could be ordered from the factory. My modification philosophy has been to remove weight rather than add power as, frankly, less weight is more fun than more power on the street. I've added an Antigravity battery, Essex/AP Racing brakes, and Vektor Performance headers to reduce weight further. Exhaust after the turbos was my next planned mod, mostly as I wanted to take weight out of the tail of the car before track season.

The Soul Trackback exhaust is the lightest setup I could find as it deletes the entire muffler. I wanted to retain catalytic converters, so I got the setup as seen above. By "as seen above," I mean the exact hardware in that picture is current hanging under my car! Soul says the catless version drops 27lbs over stock, and I bet this one drops ~22lbs or so. I don't daily the car and really only use it for weekend fun and track days, so I'm willing to compromise and accept some drone.

Removing the stock exhaust isn't hard, but the stock cats and muffler are heavy and cumbersome. A second pair of hands or a jack help a lot. Also, I suggest removing the rear fender liners to get easy access to some tough-to-reach heat shield bolts. Install is a piece of cake. I did use new gaskets though Soul said the stock ones can be reused. I used the stock flanged nut on the stock turbo stud but used the Soul-provided bolts, nuts, and washers on the other 6 holes. The bracket that holds the stock muffler is used to holds the L-shaped pipes, and I did bend both sides of the bracket slightly so thatthe L-shape part coupled with the cat part without having to push parts into place.

How's it sound? ROWDY. For some reason it's louder Normal and Sport than in Sport+. I typically use rev-matching on the track, and I don't like the synthetic burbles, so I'll likely keep the car in Sport+ most of the time. I have no CELs so it seems the cats are doing their job.

The test conditions are terrible as we’ve got howling winds today and I’m using an iPhone in the cupholder . At top speed, I’ve got wind buffeting at an airspeed of about 130mph-140mph which completely drowns out the exhaust, but you can really hear it rip in 1st and 2nd:

It absolutely SINGS at 7000rpm. There are definitely more awesome turbo sounds at lower RPM as well. Does it drone? A little bit, as expected, but really only around 2000 +/- a few hundred RPM. At 65mph I heard as much road noise as wind noise as exhaust noise. There was no drone in 7th gear at 65mph, but wonder if I'll hear it at a more-realistic 75-85mph. More testing to come.

I'm very happy with this setup and look forward to tracking the hell out of it this season.

Get some more clips of your setup. I like what I’m hearing.

Glad you like the tune my friend, these cars have a lot of potential haha. I happen to have the headers and sport cats on the shelf ready to ship at the moment. More power and sound at your fingertips and will come with a complimentary thumbs up smiling selfie in the box of our yours truly

Regards,

Here's my Carrera T with the Soul Trackback exhaust with cats. The car was cold so I didn't rev it, but you can get a sense of the sound. My neighbor with the 991.1 dropped by and filmed it. I'll try to get a cold start, warmed up idle, and loaded videos as soon as practical.

The O2 sensor socket was just what I was looking for! Did the headers last week and the passenger side is a 1 out of 10, driver side 11! Cats are up next, thanks for the video, because I was thinking about beating the cats out the side too!

happy to hear! I suggest you get the one I recommended because it’s a low profile one, which works best in that tight space.

Here’s a cold start of my Soul Trackback exhaust with cats and Vektor headers:

I think the exhaust is getting quieter. I’ve heard that exhaust can change over time due to usage; muffler batting and catalytic converters change due to heat cycles, but I have no muffler. Whatever is happening, I like it. I like it a lot.

Default Issues with heat shield

Anyone else experience this issue? There is no way the pass heat shield will line up. Looks like I’m running without the fourth bolt.

The shield may be bent out of place? Try loosening the other bolts and connecting that one first. Worst case use a stainless zip tie and hold it in place that way. Mine lined up with no issues.

I wish that were the case. I attached the two factory mounts loosely and then on to the cat mounts. The rear most mount was fine but as you can see, the other one was way off. Had a bit of an issue with the driver side cat lining up properly too, but we muscled it in.

Hey, everyone. I sold my Carrera T late last month, but had prior already been talking to @zylinderkopfdichtung about visiting with him in person during an upcoming trip to CO. Despite having sold my car, I was still curious to hear his Soul “straight-piped” catted turbo back exhaust which has been discussed above.

First off, let me say that despite making several cellphone videos/recordings (cold start, cold start idle kick down, on-road), I am not posting any of those here, as having heard the car in person, the recordings did no justice to the real-life experience, due most likely to mic/speaker limitations.

My major impressions of the exhaust are two:

First, the cold start is pretty outrageous. With no valves left in the system on removing the PSE muffler box, this is a seriously loud system for the first ~30 seconds until the idle speed drops, so if you’re faint of heart or living in an urban setting with small lots and other than enthusiast neighbors, proceed with caution. However, once the idle speed dropped, I would say the sound was not drastically louder than what I recall from my stock T.

Second, this system addressed what was always my biggest disappointment with my car, that being the interior sound level and quality on-road. Coupled with Vektor headers, this system gave the T an aggressive sound in-cabin, without being obnoxious or overly drone-y. Drone was present on throttle only between 2K and 3K, and was what I would consider minor. Turbo spool whistle was far more noticeable than my stock car, which I found a pleasant addition. Seat of the pants, his car with Vektor headers, Soul 200 cell cats and no muffler box (big weight savings) felt not drastically, but perceptibly quicker than what I recalled of my car.

If I had still owned my T, I would have installed this system on my car in a second, given what I said above about my feel for the stock system, and the fact that I live in a rural area where the cold start sound level would not have been an issue. After my visit, zylinderkopfdichtung let me know his wife had since driven the car and ruled “thumbs down” Caesar-style, so he will likely be removing the system and making it available for sale. For anyone with a 991.2 who feels as I did about the in-car sound, you might consider reaching out to zylinderkopfdichtung to discuss his nearly-new system.

A big thanks to zylinderkopfdichtung for his hospitality during my visit. He is clearly a knowledgeable enthusiast across brands, both concerning the cars themselves and with a wrench. His pursuit of the lightweight T ethos for an improved subjective driving experience with his car was well aligned with my own thinking. It was a a privilege and pleasure to visit with him!
