Is there a positive argument to be made on single wall headers like this to have them coated with some type of ceramic heat retention coating to retain the heat transfer ability of the stock manifolds? Or is it a case that once everything is at operating temperature the benefit fades?

First I want to say we greatly respect both companies mentioned for their well designed products, and Vektor has not only built a great header but been present on the forum to provide support, cheers to that!

We weighed and evaluated several factors during the R&D period, notably: Performance, clearance, longevity, pricing, and support. Our position in this market would be to offer notable performance at a fair price. To do so, our material of choice would be 304L stainless steel. To touch on longevity, 304L stainless steel has been used for 911 Turbo headers for many years with good durability - we have seen failures but they are a low amount and even 321 components can fail. We can certainly craft headers from 321 stainless or even schedule 10 steel, but that would greatly raise the price point and defeat the goal of offering great performance at a great price. Our welds are back purged for proper penetration and durability. Should there ever be any issues with cracking, we will move quickly to resolve the situation. Pre and post sale customer support has always been the core of our company values, and we stand behind our products and we’re here for you - always.

Design wise, we evaluated several merge options, tubing designs, and thicknesses. While we may not have the beautifully executed cast merge section like Vektor, our handcrafted merge section is effective at making power. To be critical of our product, it may not be the prettiest, but it hits hard where it counts. We produced a few initial variants that are out in the wild with different runner lengths, and scrapped an initial design in the interest of achieving better response in the midrange and not just top end gains.

Radiant heat was not a major concern when converting from a dual wall design to a single wall design as we did not experience an alarming increase in heat. If anyone intends to run their car extremely hard and visit the track, it would be worth considering the benefits of a ceramic coating which are A.) keeping the heat in the header to reduce external heat soak, B.) keeping exhaust gas temps high to maintain velocity for faster evacuation, and C.) added protection from corrosion. We do have relationships with Jet-Hot and Swain Tech should anyone be interested.

Testing was done at Apex Autoworks, and the owner and dyno operator, John, is a straight shooter who will give his product feedback backed by his engineering experience. I greatly respect John as his ethics align with ours in regards to producing accurate and repeatable results. Not only is this respectable to us, but it helps us ensure when we do testing that the data is consistent with SAEJ1349 correction factors. The Apex Mustang dyno is dialed in mechanically with all settings correctly input - which we’re very much thankful for. I invited John to join the forum but - if you know him - he is stretched six ways to Sunday trying to take care of customers with engine builds, alignments, and track day prep. All this said, should anyone purchasing their SOUL components want to visit this same location and want to verify numbers / custom tune on the dyno, we welcome the initiative. Regardless of gains, we’re happy so share real data. I speak for SOUL when I say we all agree here that a dollar in the bank and a name on the building doesn’t mean anything if your clients aren’t informed, comfortable, excited - and ultimately better off for doing business with you.

-Mike

Hi Mike!

Any word on when the next run of 991.2 non-pse anti-drone x-pipes are going through? I ordered on 10/21 and I’m chomping at the bit!

Thanks!

Well, I could not resist: The car will have some new headers soon to go with the Soul Cats and Cobb Stage 2!

Are they ready to go and ship soon? It states that on the website but I thought there was a backup.

Bob, that was me getting loose with terminology on the front page banner - I apologize for that. We were hoping to have more built for launch, but a lack of bends has prevented us from kitting for as many sets as we would have liked. We can build a few this month and will have them coming out quicker starting early next month.

A more accurate question would be how much time is required to install the headers? Labor costs vary widely but my installer, who put in my Soul cats, told me about 3 hours.
