Hey John, long time no talk buddy. Hope you’ve been doing ok. Here is a question. Now that I have my 991.2 GTS, volume wise, is the bigger difference heard when installing SOUL high flow cats or the headers? Last year when I installed the 991.1 headers w/ high flow cats, that was money! The sound was just ridiculous, and the bump in power across the power band was felt and dyno proven. I’m thinking of a way to get more volume and keep it at a refined tone, nothing obnoxious. I was thinking to do headers instead of the high flow cats, or are the cats the way to go? I know, you’ll probably tell me to get both installed, right? Loll

my guess is the headers aren't useful without the cats. the stock muffler is very efficient. it's not a bottle neck. so you want to keep the path of exhaust flow linear. headers without cats would be like creating an hourglass of sorts.

That might be the case, but I’m thinking that the exhausts from the headers to turbo would be smoother and more efficient, and would possibly provide more power than just the sport cats. Personally, what I’m looking for right now, is to increase the volume of the exhaust and create a unique exhaust note. I have heard the sport cats in person and they sounded great, but I was looking for something with a little more.

then i'd do cats and headers. headers by all accounts don't seem to increase volume much without the bottleneck removed. or, do cat deletes if you want more volume. there's a dude in new york with headers and cat deletes. honestly, sounds a bit over the top to me. i think headers and cats are the way to go to improve where porsche was restricted legislatively, and to not cause any drivability/electronic issues.

I’m starting to lean that way. Keep the sport exhaust, and add headers and sport cats. I agree, I think the catless pipes will be a bit much of the sounds I’m not looking for.

Mike/ John, can you speak to any of the details that separate your headers from Kline and Vektor? I'm sure you looked closely at both during your development, so I'm curious in what ways you are similar and in what ways you diverged from their designs and for what reasons?

I have both the headers and sport cats. From what you're saying, this is the combination you're looking for.
Is it going to sound as good as your 991.1? No.
Will it give you much more volume when you hit the sport button? Absolutely!
Will it be toned down to almost stock levels when in non-sport mode? Yes - it's perfect for long drives with the family. No drone, not crazy buzzing or loud sound that you can't have a normal conversation.

In Sport mode - the pops and crackles or much more pronounced. My car is manual and between shifts, you get a ton of loud pops and a few bangs here and there.
In Sport + mode - the sound is more of an air cooled car from my perspective. The decel sounds SO good!

Overall, the car just sounds much more special and gives you the added noise the car should have had from the factory. Butt dyno is hard to tell. Once I get a tune, I'm sure it'll really wake up!

Thank you. Just what I wanted to hear. My next moves are APR tune, and I guess headers and sport cats.

It's a shame we're in Covid times, I have clients in Whippany. I would have gladly met up for you to hear my car.
No in-person meetings for the foreseeable future ATM.

I've been saying it for a long time: headers, sport cats, tune

I'm not too sure we'll be hearing much from John anytime soon. He's at the track for the next five days! Lucky duck....

I have soul exhaust (x pipes non pse) sport cats and Vektor headers. Sounds great, but I want the bypass pipes for more volume. The only reason I don't have them yet is the lead time was at 8 weeks. But i'll probably place the order soon and I'll have some sport cats for sale!
