Default Do 4 way seats offer more headroom (sit lower) than 18 ways?

Someone posted here that they heard that. Is it true? Trying to maximize my headroom (tall driver) and want to be sure before I limit my search to the 4 ways (which were perfectly body formed and comfortable when I sat in them, dare I say more so than the 18 ways, but not easy to find). Already limiting my search to no sunroof is enough of a task.

Thanks.

If you want more headroom ditch the sunroof, that makes more of a difference compared to your seats.

+1 considerably more headroom sans sunroof. Sunroof delete is also great if you plan on tracking your car, less weight up high(where you don't want it).

Oh I'm definitely doing sunroof delete. But do you know if the 4 ways also sit a bit lower?

Also, anyone know if the 911 sans sunroof or the Cayman have technically better headroom? I'm leaning toward 911 but they seem to be fairly close there.

How tall is tall? At 6'3 with a sunroof and 4-way seats, I had plenty of headroom.

I'm about 6'5, but nearly all torso. So leg room is mostly okay.

The 911 with no sunroof is great, but if the 4 ways sit lower than the 18 ways, then I'll probably search for 4 ways. Every cm matters honestly. Not sure if the person I heard that the 4 ways sit lower from has accurate information.

The 4 way seats sit 3.1 cm (1.2in) lower than the 18 ways. Not huge difference but certainly noticeable. This is due less space needed for motors in the 4-way seats.

Anyone who tracks their 911 and is 6,3 or taller generally go for 4 way seats for this reason, and because during performance driving you can better feel what the car is doing, the lower you sit in the car.

Given your height I'd definitely go for 4-way seats.

Regarding sunroof, I don't recall the sunroof in glass reducing the head room much in a 991 compared to the standard sunroof, so don't forgo the sunroof just for height if you really want a sunroof, just don't get the standard sunroof, get the one in glass or nothing at all.

If you drive around with the glass sunroof closed, but the sunshade retracted, you definitely have as much or more headroom than a regular 911 without a sunroof.

Awesome, thanks! 4 ways it is. If I can ever find a 911 that meets these criteria, lol.

As for sunroof, that makes me hopeful. If I can do a glass roof it REALLY opens up my possibilities. Issue isn't the actual cutout part though (where the glass or the standard sunroof openings are), but the borders around it. Those are the parts that are a good bit lower than a solid roof, and I'm assuming those thicker outer borders are the same regardless of steel or glass sunroof (since they're there for structural reasons). I will definitely try a glass car, especially with 4 way seats though. Thanks.

If you track you should consider the helmets impact. I'm 6'1" and with a more forward seat position I barley have enough room. This is my experience in a 15' GTS Cab.

Hey Drifting, can you tell me if these are the 14 or 18 way seats? And do the 14 ways also sit higher than the 4 ways (and if so, do they sit at the exact height of the 18 ways, or any lower themselves)?

Thank you!

Odd it is so tight for you. Have you sat in a car yet to see for yourself? I have 14 way seats and a glass sunroof. I am 6'3" and my son is 6'5". Headroom is not even close to a problem. Of course it would be with a helmet which is why I no longer track my cars. It is unclear whether you have actually sat in any car yet.

Those are 14 way seats. 18 way seats have two additional rectangular switches.

Headroom is definitely passable with a sunroof. I just am tight if I sit straight up, which is where the solid roof truly helps. I did sit in them, but I have yet to sit in a 14 or 18 way seat car and no sunroof, so now I'm wondering if I need 4 ways to truly have that extra space, or if 14/18's will do.

Thanks ND. Now to hope and find out if the 14 ways sit lower than the 18 ways.

The OP stated he had a long torso and that makes a big difference in some people. two people can be the same height when standing but one be 2 inches taller when sitting.
