Welcome to the new, improved Ferrari brand!
Since MY2012, I believe, Ferrari has included
a FREE 7-year Maintenance Plan on all Ferraris
they sell in this market. And with no limit on
mileage & fully transferable to subsequent owners.
In addition, all covered models receive time-related
maintenance, such as auxiliary belt & brake fluid
replacements.

In contrast, Audi provides new owners with ONLY one
free service. After that, you pay. You can opt for the
nicely priced 'Audi Care' program they offer. But it covers
only FOUR services & it will cost you extra. It is not part
of the new purchase price, unlike Ferrari's Seven Year Free
Maintenance Program:

***
Regardless, 'Audi Care' is a wise investment if you buy a
new Audi. I purchased the plan for both my 2011 R8
Spyder & my current 2016 RS7.

If someone is out of step with these innovative 'Maintenance'
programs, it's Porsche!

Last time I checked, the 'Porsche Scheduled Maintenance Plan'
was expensive in comparison to Audi's & downright abusive as
compared to Ferrari's:

2 year/20,000 miles $1,150.00
3 year/30,000 miles $1,450.00
4 year/40,000 miles $2,750.00
5 year/50,000 miles $3,075.00

While the California T (or even the NA California) might be a fine car in its own right, I really don't think it's a substitute for the R8 V10+.

The California T is more properly cross-shopped with a Mercedes SL65 AMG, than an R8.

Yes, but modern Ferrari's don't require nearly the maintenance that older (i.e. pre 2010/11) models do. For example, modern F cars use timing chains, and not those nasty belts.

One of the journalists (I think Dan Prosser) said that the R8 hard more head room than the Huracan. German cars tend to fit tall people much better than Italian cars. When I get to sit in the R8 it might be an immediate no do to discomfort. It has to be at least as comfortable and roomy as a 991. Ferrari's aren't.
The huracan gives 27.56 inches of height when entering via door, and 36.22 inches of height measured from the surface of the seat to top (just measured it for you). The seat can still be lowered a bit more to give more head room.

I think you can fit comfortably in one. Just don't drive it 2 hours straight without chiropractor appointment!

True dat. The targeted customer for the Ferrari
California T is pretty much the same the individual
that normally would be interested in a Mercedes
Benz SL AMG or a...Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet.
And Ferrari will admit to that openly. Chris Harris
points it out in the course of his Cali T video review
that I previously posted here.

Interestingly enough, Ferrari has said that over 70%
of California buyers had never owned a Ferrari before
they bought this 'entry level' model. But this model
is much bigger than that for Ferrari. Here is a blurb
from an article in Autoweek that was published when
the California T was introduced as a MY2015:

"When the last California rolled from Maranello
in late May, production had surpassed 10,000,
making it the top selling single-model series in
Ferrari history. One in three has come to the
United States -- a higher rate than Ferrari as
a brand.

More than 70 percent of California owners are
first-time Ferrari buyers. They drive their cars
30 percent more miles annually than other
Ferrari owners, through 50 percent more trips.
They carry a passenger 65 percent of the time.
"

So, a California T is not comparable to the R8.
The latter is a dedicated sportscar & the Cali T
is a Grand Touring (GT) vehicle. And apparently
that is the formula for Cali's success (in relative
terms given Ferrari's very limited production #s
).
And if we want to talk about a dedicated sportscar
that can go head to head with the R8 V10+, we can
always bring into the conversation this beastly beauty!

Thanks for all the info. Just to re-iterate. I don't want an Italian car and I don't want a turbocharged car. That German guy (Thomas) did 2 great R8 reviews. The R8 is roomier than a Huracan. As a DD the R8 is better than a 488/Huracan. Also, I won't buy a used car no matter what. So that leaves the R8. I will probably look at the non-plus. This will be a DD so 540 Hp is quite adequate and the non-plus has 3 advantages for me. 1.I dislike the rear spoiler on the plus. 2.the seats are way more comfortable on the non-plus. 3.the non-plus has the magnetic shocks/dampers for a more comfortable ride. The car will NOT see the track. It will cost very little to trade my car for the standard R8 so it still boils down to how comfortable I find the R8. It has to be at least as comfortable as my 991. I will try and get to the dealer within the next 2 weeks.

I owned a 2014 Audi R8 V10 S Tronic for 6 months.

What I liked:
- Unique looks (feels special from the outside)
- Performance (closer to a Turbo in terms of speed)
- Price (if you buy used you can grab one cheap)
- DCT transmission was pretty quick

What I disliked:
- Feels like a big car
- Handling is not great
- Interior and tech felt like it came out of a TT
- Starting to show its age

Audi recently offered me a chance to drive the new 2017 and here is what I thought compared to the last gen r8:

- Faster
- Interior is much improved
- Exterior design is less special (looks like a bigger TT)
- Handling is improved (not great but better)
- DCT is finally on par with PDK (pdk is still better)

2nd gen r8 compared to 991:

- Unless you go Turbo, the r8 will win in a straight line.
- The 991 out handles the r8 all day
- The r8 is a fun car when speed and torque are the stars of the show. At slower speeds it feels like driving any other Audi.
- The 991 is more fun when it comes to winding out the motor on twisty roads.
- Both cars feel special. The r8 will get more attention. The 991 is more classic and understated.

Both are excellent cars and you really need to drive both and see which puts the bigger smile on your face. Best of luck in your search!

Just watched a review of the 570 on Ignition (Motor Trends Netflix show). Among other things, he said something that stuck with me: the R8 switchgear and cockpit in general shares much with, say, the A3. Someone above just said TT. Agreed.

It is about the most expensive Audi, but an Audi. Nothing wrong with Audi! However no theatre or specialness to interior...

The 570 is the cheapest Mac. In comparison, it shares interior items with the million dollar P1 and is much more special.

So. Both about the same price but top of the line = too much midrange inside whereas bottom of the line (but top of your budget) is the automotive equivelant of marrying up.

^^^ Great points. I agree.

He's stuck on the R8. Doesn't want Turbo, and don't think that style car is his thing. Also, limited McLaren dealer network.

Bacura ---- 2 more weeks to a test drive?? Go today please. In another two weeks, they'll be talking about you buying a Jag F Type or Maserati.

I don't disagree but no McLaren would suit me as a DD. Doesn't a base Boxster look like a 911 TTS interior? Doesn't a C300 have a similar dash and switchgear as a C63 AMG? My wife drives a Q5 and I really love Audi interiors. All reviews agree that the star of the show is that NA V10. And when it comes to cars isn't the engine the main attraction? The new Audi virtual cockpit is awesome and very similar to the Huracan.
